Why is Alejandro Toledo in this article?

Can anyone clarify why Alejandro Toledo, former President of Peru is in this article. I did not see any reference to him being kidnapped or being suspected of being kidnapped. ProfessorPaul 06:58, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Link Rot

Just how is Link Rot dealt with in Wikipedia. It's been a while since my last edit. All the references to delimarveracuervas.blogspot.com lead to dead blog. There is no wayback archive that I can find. Do we just straight up delete the link or do we tag it in the hopes that someone might find a new source to reference? Dru Sjodin was abducted and murdered; should not be listed under 'suspected' kidnapping

You have Dru Sjodin listed under "suspected" kidnappings; this is not accurate. Dru Sjodin was kidnapped and murdered in 2003. Please check your sources in the future. Here are a few links:

This article would probably be better laid out as a table. An idea of how to split the columns:

List of famous kidnappings - other incidents?

Patricia Hearst is only listed under "modern kidnappings of celebrities and their relatives". Shouldn't she be in the famous kidnappings list as well? The case is legendary in its own right; its not only significant because of who she was. What about Carlie Brucia, the Florida girl whose kidnapping was caught on a survelliance videotape and broadcast to the whole country? Joseph from Genesis, kidnapped by his brothers and sold into slavery?

I would call it "List of renowned kidnappings" or "List of widely-publicized kidnappings". I agree with PK9 about Patty Hearst. I was shocked that she wasn't on the first list. I also agree with Dhartung about scope and organization. Lisapaloma (talk) 20:15, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

It certainly doesn't cover anywhere near all of the kidnappings of people around the world. Even with regards to famous kidnappings, there are kidnappings on the list that are far from famous, which don't even have a link to the victim. Writing style

Change name

A better name for this article is needed. First and foremost there is no reason for this title to be capitalized since it is not a proper noun. Second the wording itself needs to be revamped. How about List of famous kidnappings? --mav

Link to Seka Aleksic in the "Faked kidnappings" section doesn't point to the right person.

These aren't so much famous kidnappings as kidnappings connected to famous people. I'm not sure if we need a better title, or a better/different organization, perhaps sorting well-known cases like Hearst, Lindbergh, and Aldo Moro from little-known incidents connected to celebrities. This is a list of modern kidnappings of celebrities' relatives, not a list of famous kidnappings. When I saw the title, I was going to add Edgardo Mortara to the list. He was kidnapped in 1858 at the age of 6. Obviously his case fits this article's title. But he and his family were not celebrities, nor rich. He doesn't fit with the others on this list. I've moved it to list of modern kidnappings of celebrities' relatives. Maybe now the redirect page list of famous kidnappings can be converted into an actual list of famous kidnappings. For the benefit of those who think of Charles Lindbergh as having existed at the Beginning of Time, let me mention here that the fact that it was in the 1930s makes the word modern completely appropriate; recorded history actually began before the 20th century. Do we really need a Faked kidnappings section?

The section's contents more or less duplicate those in the article Fake kidnapping. We should have either the section or the article, not both. Should we merge the contents of the section fully into the article, and substitute just a link to the article? Or does the article have so little content, and not much likelihood of growing, that we should nominate it for AfD and merge its contents into the section here? Terms and definitions

Not sure how this article was developed, but to refer people taken as prisoners during wartime (as in the French and Indian War) as being kidnapped just clouds the issues. They were in another category. Yes, some non-combatants were held for ransom (in some cases by Indians or enemy forces), but it really had a different meaning than private kidnappings in the contemporary sense. This article is confusing. When you consider that the crime of kidnapping has existed since before recorded history, it is surprising that this list only includes incidents that are very recent, & very American-centric. Should this list include recorded cases of impressment? Or documented cases of people kidnapped into slavery? I feel this list would work much better if there were an introductory paragraph explaining what was included/excluded in this list. -- llywrch (talk) 10:17, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
I agree. Picking a few captives of the border wars between New England and Canada does not capture the scale of the raids during colonial times and warfare including the American Revolution. The article is rather worthless as it is, especially as it includes political abductions (as in the Soviet Union and China), of which there were no doubtless many more. Doesn't anyone know about the tens of thousands of disappearances and executions under Stalin? If people want to write about noted American kidnappings, then have the article restricted to that.Parkwells (talk) 16:44, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

Madelien McCann

I strongly disagree with the entry on the Madelien McCann "kidnapping" on the list of kidnappings of a kidnappers name, nobody has been convicted of this crime and the accused are innocent until proved guilty so Christian Breukners name has to be removed immediately, I'm disgusted that this is allowed here, So this space is just another gossip page I can't trust
