(The rest of the films in the highest grossing Malayalam films section on Wikipedia is correct but I just want to correct this because according to the kerala producers association they decided not to allow twitter accounts to ruin Malayalam movie images and box office reports and to only listen to the reports sent by the official producer. The websites and 'producers' on twitter claim to be trackers but are not as they have no solid source or claim and are leading away many people. On the other hand, other indian language trackers rely on the producers for their figures or just estimate based on latest figure released by producers and no. of rounded tickets sold in main multiplexes etc, and based on tax exemption of the year and hype figure and business divided by the revenue income. I hope In the future that proper south indian box office pages e.g. box office mojo type pages will emerge with source/reference and solid proof. I hope Wikipedia can help find trusted websites and ther figures and post the correct box office collections of indian films. If you want I can also help out with doing so.)

Moving on, not a single one of the references you've submitted are sufficient for consideration. We don't care what blogs or other faceless random websites say or think. We only care what major mainstream sources say about a film's financials. The biggest problem we have at articles like these is with people who, for whatever reason, think they have a better comprehension about how much a film made than what the mainstream sources say. The bottom line is that there is no Truth with a capital-T when it comes to Indian film financials. The directors, distributors, studios, actors, often lie and inflate or deflate figures as suits their needs. Actors want to be the next 100 crore star, studios want to lure more people into theatres by enticing them to be part of the 200 crore spectacle! So it would be foolish to assume their claims as truth, and there is no central auditing system in place to suggest any sort of accuracy at all.

Its clearly understood that you people showing discrimination towards Tamil movies and you want telugu movies in the list of Tamil movies and never want Tamil production movie (2pointO) Which all most collected in and around 100cr only in telugu version. Since around 2015 when Baahubali came out, and was filmed in two languages, the standard has been to include multilingual films in multiple tables. The sources of the collections of 2.0 seem dubious

Please recheck the collections of 2.0 film. Neither source gives accurate figures. In fact one of them does not give an estimate at all.

Okay, well, I tracked the 823.3 figure down to this edit by Sapian sam, who is now blocked for competency concerns, POV editing, etc. What I think happened, was that 2.0 was released globally, and grossed roughly ₹800 crore. However, it later released in China, so there should have been some extra income from that. I think Sapian sam was trying to include that, but was having trouble sourcing, so they opted for the poor reference Oracle Globe. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 05:18, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification. However, two things persist. First, PK has a collection of 832 crores. Why is it below 2.0 in the list? Second, the source that says 2.0 earned 800 crore does not give a correct estimate at all. Why not use the collections from boxoffice India since that is the source for the collections of Bahubali and other films? The collection list is here. Even PK's collections are only 750 crores!

I also have some questions about BOI's accuracy in this case, since 1) they tend to focus more on Hindi, 2) they failed to update the gross here and 3) it's unclear if the Chinese figures were included in the gross. Unfortunately the last time the Wayback Machine archived their top grossers list was in March 2019, so there's no way to see if they tracked an increase after the Chinese release. Contrarily, this source suggests a 750 crore figure for 2.0 in its second week of release. No doubt it made money thereafter. 800 crore per DNA, 800 crore per India.com. 14 crore on day 2 of the Chinese release. So I think the BOI figure is probably a low-ball. Films in each language category

I request that you remove Telugu films from the Tamil category. The Baahubali franchise and Saaho are Telugu films. Their global gross can be included in the Telugu category, but why in the Tamil one ? If 2.O, a Tamil film had been included in the Telugu category, it would be alright. But that isn't the case. As per the recent update from the producers association the movie Mamangam has grosses 135 crores worldwide in 25 days of its release. One website says 265 crs One website says 242.5 crs. I would not source pinkvilla information as it has conflicting reports within it's website it self, with one article saying master is the highest grossing tamil film of 2021 with 300cr gross, while another article for 2021 hightgest grossing indian films puts pushpa at first with 273crs, and master 3rd with 242.5 cr.

In the case of Kurup (film) the source used is Filmibeat which is not reliabke according to wikipedia. Discrepancy in the way "Highest Grossing Franchises" is ranked

Under section "Highest Grossing Franchises" we technically can't include the other language remakes of Dabaang, and Singham if they aren't done by the same Directors, or publically acknowledged as the same series by the filmmakers. They are different series just based on the same storyline. 210.10.2.231 (talk) 19:16, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

All the remakes share same source material, so that's no big issue, imo. For example, List of highest-grossing films#Highest-grossing franchises and film series, a featured list includes both Japanese and American versions of Godzilla, even though they are not directly related to each other.

However, the overlapping film series need some clean up. Question is whether:

a Mention both the combined franchise and the individual series separately

(or)

b. Split off overlapping series in entirety by deleting the combined franchise

Option a does have a precedent in the above list. It features both MCU and Spider-Man, and DCEU and Batman.

No precedent for option b since its not ideal to discredit the source material. Media franchise by definition is "several derivative works have been produced from an original creative work of fiction". But this definition fails when applied to Housefull (film series) and Baaghi (film series) where individual entries themselves are remakes of different films.

Any action would revamp the table completely, so inviting active members of ICTF for input. @Fylindfotberserk, Kailash29792, Ravensfire, Sid95Q, DaxServer, DareshMohan, and SP013:

Franchises in question are:

1. Singam: Singam (film series) (Tamil) and Cop Universe (Hindi)

3. Don: Don (franchise) (Hindi), Billa (film series) (Tamil), and Yugandhar-Billa (Telugu)

Ab207 More or so I think we should go with option A by doing the series individually. The Singam Series should be split up into two separate series' on the table because even though for the first part it is the same in Tamil, the rest of the films in the series are all based on different films and combining that gross with the Tamil Singam series does not seem viable. For Dabangg and Gabbar Singh those should also be split into individual ones because except for the first film the other films in their respective series are different. For Don, we can delete the old Tamil version and Telugu versions from the list as they do not fall under that "series" of films while making the Don and Billa Tamil series' individual because then again the second part is different from each other. @SP013: Yeah but just a note that franchises don't necessarily have to be a "series." They can be remakes/reboots/spin-offs etc also. In the above example, Lion King franchise includes both 1994 film and its 2019 remake. Same is the case with Godzilla which includes every film that is based on Godzilla, though they are unrelated or not a series.

So deleting old versions of Don goes contrary to that. There's a case of excluding Billa II though but I'm not entirely sure. -- Ab207 (talk) 05:10, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi, just bringing this thread back to discussion again, with respect to the Don/Billa Franchises and the Dabangg/Gabbar Singh franchises. I feel that the inclusion is not really justified within the list, and they should be split as separate franchises just like Singham. Inclusion of remakes has a major flaw in the sense that this list just includes Bollywood films remade in other languages. There is lots of missing data in the list, such as the Vikramarkudu, where the Telugu (23cr) plus remakes in Hindi Rowdi Rathore(283cr) and Tamil(180 cr) should have made the list but are not included. This flaw occurs in several other examples across Telugu, Kannada and Tamil movies as well, where the remakes have not been included, while the Hindi Remakes in other languages have been included. IB Times and Bollywood Hungama mentioned the final collection to be ₹420 crore. Pinkvilla, Asianet News, Zee News, ABP News, MensXP reported that the collection was ₹432.50 crores. While The Hindustan Times stated that the collection was ₹500 crore.
