Oracion Six

Just wondering, but why are we using Tokyopop's adaptation of this name instead of 'Oracion Seis'? If Del Rey's using the names Mashima gives them, I doubt it's likely to be anything other than what can be derived from romanising the Katakana. 128.250.5.245 (talk) 05:27, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

I've added a footnote on Oracion Seis and the other dark guilds from the Translation Notes in the Del Rey manga. AngusWOOF (talk) 20:33, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Rewriting/Including Character/Story Creation & Design

Since this article has been tagged for cleanup, in addition to making character descriptions and story lines as concise as possible we should also include information about design and/or production. See WP:WAF for more information. The official English releases by Del Ray include a lot of useful information in the back of the books. I have all the Volumes and will edit in character design information where and when I can. If anyone comes across more information from secondary sources like Newtype - if you can read Japanese - and other publications whether it be English or foreign as long as they live up to the standard of secondary sources please include it. Fox816 (talk) 20:27, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

While I appreciate the thought, stuff like that isn't really necessary. If you look at the List of Naruto Characters article, they don't include such details. Also, if we're trying to clean-up the information, what's the point of adding more? It's basically going around in circles. And even though it's a clean-up, it doesn't mean we have condense down stuff. We may just have to add more sources. GENERALZERO (talk) 23:44, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
I beg to differ which is why I included the link to WP:WAF. Please read the section regarding the problems with IN-UNIVERSE style and the necessity in having SECONDARY INFORMATION. As an editor who is concerned with correcting the article due to the issue tags, I suggest you read what is required. And you may also want to look at that list again as it includes a Character Concept and Creation section. Additional information is included in the characters individual articles while small snippets are added to the summary list which links to the main article. Clean up in terms of storyline necessitates that we cover important information of the character's involvement in the plot. Extraneous information such as point-by-point narration is not needed. Precise and concise, basically. Sources only go so far. Remember, this is Wiki. If we just say "Go buy it", we're not doing what Wiki is intended for. Fox816 (talk) 00:30, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
I should also note that no one owns any article. If someone makes a contributing edit, please consider the article and not your own preferences in terms of reverting. There is a limit to which you can revert as well, See WP:3RR. Fox816 (talk) 00:36, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Whoa, whoa, hold on a sec. I never said anything about owning the article. Listen, I just want the article to be the best it can be, so I'm willing to take back my earlier actions. Also, try and make edits in one go please. Instead of making three different ones. GENERALZERO (talk) 02:36, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
I need to work on my proofreading. I'll keep that in mind in the future. Thanks. Sorry for sounding hard if it came across that way. Just keep in mind good faith when it comes to edits. Unless it's blatant vandalism or outright incorrect, try to understand the editor is also trying to improve the article their own way. If action is required (further editing to shorten or correct grammar/spelling) please do so in a civil manner and work with the editor. I understand this article has come under attack with a lot of name changes and such which has led to reverting and frustration, just don't get in the habit of doing so with every edit made. The last thing we need is a revert war ^^; Anyways, I look forward to working with everyone to improve this list. All lists dream of being 'Featured'. Let's make it happen! Fox816 (talk)`
Going to work on re-writes if and where needed and fixing up the introduction. We should include a Creation and Concept section but information is still a bit scarce. Still need more references and the likes if anyone has some to offer. Tintor2 posted some on the main Fairy Tail discussion page. The links are in the box on the top. Fox816 (talk) 05:39, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Sorry Fox816, but you've kinda been spellin' Erza's name wrong. Here's the spelling from the anime's site, which contains all the official spellings so far for main characters: http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/contents/fairytail/images/c05.gif GENERALZERO (talk) 16:57, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Ahh, thanks for the catch. All this time I've been reading it as Ezra everywhere, which I guess sounded better so I ended up sticking to that mentally XD My bad. Fox816 (talk) 22:46, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Splitting Elfman and Mirajane's section

Why does Mirajane and Elfman share a section? they are both significant and unique members of Fairy Tail and they should be seperated. Simply being brother and sister doesn't mean they should share a section. - SuperTiencha (talk) 19:52, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Horrible grammar

Wow, some of the grammar and such in this page makes it look like it was written by an 8-year old. Seriously, periods should have a space after them, and some of the sentences are just too choppy. I would correct it, but it's just way too much =.=

I'm personally trying to make my own version of the page, but I'm having trouble organizing the characters: should it be "Main/Major/Minor characters", or "Protagonists/Antagonists/Supporting characters"? I mean, there are a lot of characters who switch sides, but I don't know what characters would constitute as "major" and "minor". Also, who are you and will my message go unnoticed, because I really hope you're an admin and not some random editor. User:Immblueversion (talk) 05:58, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

I think im leaning more towards the Main/Major/Minor because its more conservative and organized and the protagonist/antagonist approach would be less organized because like you mentioned people in the series change sides. Another reason is because most anime character lists do the main/major/minor format and It works better with them. - SuperTiencha (talk) 19:08, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

I suppose this presents a new issue: who are the Main/Major/Minor characters? Of course Natsu, Lucy, Happy, Gray, and Erza are the core members, so they'd go under "Main." But what about Wendy and Charle, who are promoted in the anime alongside the core five members (who I'm thinking may be named "Charles" after seeing an English spelling of her name in the opening of the anime's OVAs)? And then there's Gajeel and Pantherlily, and maybe even Juvia. However, I'm thinking of labeling Gajeel and Lily as "Main" and Juvia as "Major". For the rest of the guild, I think they should be listed under "Major" in a subsection titled "Fairy Tail", which would detail what the guild as a whole is like and state that the main characters are part of this guild. But what would we do about Laxus and Mystogan, who left the guild?
Next is Jellal and Ultear. They're both recurring characters, so I suppose they'd go under "Major." But while I feel Jellal should get an independent subsection, I'm more iffy Ultear, who is far more prominent than her own guild, Grimoire Heart. I guess it would depend on what future developments are in store for Ultear.
Last are the other guilds, including the dark guilds. Would guilds like Phantom Lord, which only appears in one arc before being disbanded, be "Major" or "Minor"? What about Blue Pegasus and Lamia Scale, who are frequently mentioned but only prominent in a single arc? And should we list all the dark guilds in the series under one subsection, and maybe even include another subsection for the Baram/Balam Alliance? And what about celestial spirits, who appear frequently? User:Immblueversion (talk) 16:02, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Major revamp for GA or FL status

All right, I am proposing we get this to a Good Article or a Featured List status. See my sandbox. I am using List of Naruto characters and List of One Piece characters as models. However, I still need to add more to the creation and conception section, and also add a merchandise and a reception section in addition to resolving the issues on the actual article.

In addition to the issue described above, there are issues we need to fix up, using the List of Naruto characters and List of One Piece characters as models:

  1. Figure out what we should do with the section headers (I would suggest changing the article headers to protagonists/antagonists/other characters regarding the characters)
  2. Rewrite character summaries and add chapters as sources.
  3. Remove in-universe information.
  4. Copyedit the whole thing to death

All are welcome to assist and discuss in this process. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 02:12, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Sounds good. Recommend adding the GNN/GNR scheme for chapter references as well. AngusWOOF (talk) 18:31, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
I'm in. I've actually been trying to format the character page like the List of One Piece characters page by listing the members of Fairy Tail, then the guilds and major groups, and finally prominent individual characters. However, that page is not GA or FL material, unlike the List of Naruto characters page. So I think we have to consider which characters should get sections and subsections, which should just be mentioned as part of a collective group, and which are worth mentioning in at all.
For an example, here's my own heavily-in-progress sandbox, influenced heavily by the One Piece article: User:Immblueversion/sandbox. It has a number of references not used in the current Fairy Tail article, but not everywhere.
I also advise we get the current article semi-blocked from editing to prevent vandalism. User:Immblueversion (talk) 22:16, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
We can post a request for this page to be protected at WP:RFPP. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 22:18, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Suggest also referencing the manga for character profiles as the author did write up some nice details on each of the Fairy Tail guild members, like the "Likes: Fish Dislikes: Baths" that may not be that important to note on wikipedia, but worth it for someone who wants to remember where they've seen the entire profile for that character before in the manga. The voices can be listed up front as well with the nihongo or nihongo3 format. I've been using visible anchors scheme for bookmarking many of the character lists without having to relegate them to subsections. I like your idea of adding conception and reception for each of the characters as that will help prop the guide to higher than a C-class rating, which some of my other character lists seem to be stuck at since they mostly have in-manga/in-anime references. AngusWOOF (talk) 19:16, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
here's my start on the GNN/GNR format for chapter references User:AngusWOOF/sandbox AngusWOOF (talk) 23:53, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Sorry for the late reply, but the list looks good so far. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 03:42, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Also, as a note, the reception section has been created. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 04:28, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Chapter references are ready to cut in. Just give the word. User:AngusWOOF/sandbox AngusWOOF (talk) 00:30, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
 Done. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 01:20, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
Cool. They just put in brackets for the chapter references on the gnn/gnr template so they look better. AngusWOOF (talk) 19:37, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Regarding the guild hall descriptions and guildmaster histories, I suggest moving that to the Fairy Tail members section as it doesn't seem to be pertinent to the protagonists. The guild hall descriptions should also be more tailored to fit a character list. Fairy Tail members can also have its own section like the Major characters. Affirmative. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 02:06, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
Lookin' good! Thanks for copyediting my updates. Those sections are starting to flow better. AngusWOOF (talk) 03:45, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
