Background information[edit]

This section is lifted from lisaraitt.ca. That is not a reliable source by definition, not that I mean that it is lies. That's why I put the template on. I will look for some info, but if anyone has some sources, please add some cites. Alaney2k (talk) 22:58, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The lisaraitthemp.ca web site says:

She is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and holds a Master of Science from the University of Guelph. She earned her law degree from Osgoode Hall at York University.

The lisaraitt.ca web site says:

Minister Raitt pursued education first in science, graduating with a B.Sc. from St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, and an M.Sc. in Chemistry, specialized in environmental biochemical toxicology, from the University of Guelph (Ontario). She then proceeded to earn her LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School. Upon her call to the bar in 1998, she was honoured as a Dr. Harold G. Fox Scholar and trained with barristers in the United Kingdom who specialized in international trade, commerce, transportation and arbitration.

The youngest of seven children, Minister Raitt grew up in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Her father was first a mine worker, who loaded coal onto ships, and later a union leader and elected town councillor, and her mother was a small businesswoman.

The Fox Education Fund website lists past recipients, and Lisa Raitt is listed as one of the recipients for 1998-99.[1] Actually, you may have just missed it when looking for her name because I just noticed that this was the same page that you said she wasn't listed on. She is listed as Lisa Raitt (MacCormack) Minister of Natural Resources.Cmr08 (talk) 01:30, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When it comes to objective facts like date of birth and education, I see no problem with citing a politician's website as a source. Naming kids[edit]

This names their child. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leona_Aglukkaq Aglukkaq was raised in Thom Bay, Taloyoak and Gjoa Haven. She is married to Robbie MacNeil and has a son, Cooper.[4]

This tells how long they have been married which is missing from Lisa R. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Albrecht Albrecht owns a hobby farm in between Petersburg and New Dundee, and he and his wife Betty have been married for over thirty-five years. They have three children and seven grandchildren.

This names their child. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephane_Dion In April 1986, Stéphane Dion married Janine Krieber, and later the same year, they travelled to Peru to adopt their only child, Jeanne.[10] Janine Krieber, an "expert in strategic studies and counter-terrorism issues,"[4] now teaches political science and sociology at Royal Military College's ASU Saint-Jean campus in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

Forget about other articles. Can you cite the reliable independent sources that have discussed the children, and named them for Raitt? --Rob (talk) 04:04, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The referenced article in the Toronto Star does mention the names of her children. I'm fine with including these names in the article. The ages are not relevant because they of course change every year (!) Other biographical articles do include names of children and parents. I think it is useful in setting a cultural and sociological background for the person. EncyclopediaUpdaticus (talk) 10:51, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality tagging on Federal politics section[edit]

I've tagged this section as not neutral as it focuses solely on controversial issues about her federal service, and doesn't focus at all on any positive things she may have done during that time. Changed two statements taking later denials or explanations into account[edit]

I have made two changes in statements that were in the article. One of the statements, in the section "Incident at Lester B. Pearson Airport", was: "Raitt refused to comment directly about the incident." It then cites the Ottawa Citizen and National Post. However, the National Post article actually says: "He [Bill Trbovich] claimed there had been an angry exchange with the workers and that Raitt had directed RCMP officers to make arrests. After initially refusing to comment on the incident, Raitt's office issued a statement categorically denying Trbovich's claims". The National Post article also says that Raitt's office said "the minister did not make any comments about the union members". http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/03/23/air-canada-workers-in-clapping-incident-were-called-animals-by-lisa-raitt-union/

The other statement, in the section "Mismanagement allegations" was: "A November 2009 report by the Toronto Star detailed that Raitt signed off on her own expenses, at least on one occasion when the TPA board chair wouldn't do so.[7] This followed the finding that a staffer in Raitt's office at the TPA used TPA resources on Raitt's election campaign." Actually the first sentence was denied by the Toronto Port Authority immediately, see here: http://www.torontoport.com/About-TPA/Media-Room/Press-Releases/Toronto-Port-Authority-responds-to-inaccuracies-in.aspx. The second sentence was based on a report in the Oakville Beaver. A summary can be found by searching for the headline "Time for Raitt to speak up" at http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/metroland/advancedsearch.html: "In the weeks since Mississauga South Liberal MP Paul Szabo began questioning why an employee of the Toronto Port Authority - where [Lisa Raitt] was CEO before entering the arena of federal politics- had been sending e-mails about the Sept. 24 fundraiser, the Halton MP has remained quiet." So the summary doesn't mention any election campaign (not surprising because there was none), and the allegation is just that an employee was sending non-TPA emails using a TPA computer, and the real source is once again the Toronto Star http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2009/10/01/tory_fundraiser_sparks_uproar.html. It turns out that the staffer, who actually was a Liberal, was judged by the Ethics Commissioner to have acted out of friendship. Orphaned references in Lisa Raitt[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Lisa Raitt's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
