ancient sources[edit]

Additional ancient sources for this myth would be appreciated. I could only find the note in Servius; this is all Smith's Dictionary gives. Servius identifies the abductor as Pluto, not Hades, consonant with the mythology of the various mysteries and their emphasis on love rather than violence. Robert Graves, as always, presents his own poetic interpretation as if it's gospel — a reminder to regard Graves as an original mythographer, not an academic source that seeks to present the material transparently.
