Beatles cover[edit]

This article overemphasizes the Beatles cover. I reworked the opening paragraph but improvements can be made. riffic (talk) 06:56, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it over-emphasizes the cover by The Beatles. It may under-emphasize the earlier recordings. The Beatles' version is notable because of who they were but (more concretely) because the songs they covered were discussed in books, magazines, etc.

I assume reliable sources can be found for information about the other covers, and if so, someone with access to those sources should expand the coverage of the earlier versions. — John Cardinal (talk) 13:52, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's basically what I mean. This song had a life prior to its recording by the Beatles, and this particular recording was only made popular by the 1995 release of the Anthology. This article should be fair and reflect that. riffic (talk) 18:20, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure what you are implying, if anything, by "this particular recording was only made popular by the 1995 release of the Anthology". The 1995 release by The Beatles may be the only popular version: I think it's likely that if The Beatles didn't cover it, there would not be a WP article on this song. Be that as it may, the article now has {{Expand}} on it, so let's see if anyone comes along to provide details about the other versions. — John Cardinal (talk) 20:41, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

by "this particular recording" I meant the 1964 Beatles recording. According to the article text, two other recordings entered the Billboard charts in 1961 so this was certainly notable enough prior to warrant a WP article. riffic (talk) 03:59, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
