Miseducation 19m claim

No, because it's a recent story from some lazy writer who's just relaying what he or she read on this Wikipedia page. This is known as citogenesis and is a bad thing. Almost all of her sales of Miseducation would have come before the Wikipedia era began, so I looked for sources before 2004 or so. The three sources I added - the Rolling Stone piece, the Time magazine piece, and a press release from Columbia Records, all in the 2002-2003 timeframe - give 12 million copies worldwide. Middle name

Does anyone have a reliable source whether her middle name is spelled Noel or Noelle? --Komischn (talk) 12:10, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

I've looked and can't find any really reliable sources that it was either of them. The book biographies of her that I've accessed don't give any middle name at all. Wasted Time R (talk) 12:22, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Today's edits

Your reversion is correct. I gave some slack to the first set of Wikitempuser's changes, because even though they used a random blog as a source, the divorce certificate contained within does cast some doubt on the 2003 Rolling Stone claim. But the second set of Wikitempuser's changes was full of editorial speculation based upon photos and included introduction of a recent rumor, none of which is appropriate for a BLP. Where's this section?

Where is this section, I think it's pretty important when Lauryn said and I quote: "I would rather die than have a white person buy one of my albums."?!? Why no mention? Reverse racism doesn't exist, in the world of Wikipedia, right? (120.149.124.180 (talk) 06:58, 22 April 2014 (UTC))

It didn't happen. See for example this Snopes.com write-up. The false rumor is alluded to by this passage in the article: "In 1996, Hill responded to a false rumor on The Howard Stern Show that she had made a racist comment on MTV, saying "How can I possibly be a racist? My music is universal music. And I believe in God. If I believe in God, then I have to love all of God's creations. Orphaned references in Lauryn Hill

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Lauryn Hill's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Just watching her excellent set at Glastonbury, but I have to wonder; the lead states that "She is often regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time, as well as being one of the most influential singers of her generation. Hill is credited for breaking barriers for female rappers, popularizing melodic rapping and for bringing hip hop and neo soul to popular music." - But there are no sources to confirm this, thus it is currently anecdotal. Absurd influence list

The status claiming her as an influence section is a joke. There's no value in a 20000 character paragraph listing every artist who has ever mentioned her in an interview like this. It should be edited to show notability. Refbombing like this is ridiculous.Pipsally (talk) 04:05, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

assumptions

The article claims that Lauryn Hill denounced her fame writing more spiritual and introspective songs. This may be an assumption rather than fact.

My interpretation of Lauryn Hill's MTV performance shows that she offered her gift to the audience then and into the future as a text more than hip, cool, and possibly dumbing. And if her fame dropped as a result of this change in material it was consequential, not choice. As Lauryn stated: "Even if one person...."

And that one person has grown to include the entire R&B culture. Off the top of my head, take a listen to the Black Eyed Peas "Do What You Want", the final track of the Monkey Business album. anybody who doesn't think lauryn can hit the note in "to zion" should go to youtube.com and search for lauryn hill.. there's several concert footage which proves she can hit it.. anyway why would a woman of her integrity claim she could hit it and not do it??
