Amelia[edit]

Does anyone have proof of Amelia's attending LHS? A February 3 2003 entry from a dcrtv.com News Archive says she's a Baltimore native, but that's the most I found. --Adavidb 20:01, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oldest school in pgps is dubious and unsupported[edit]

The claim that Laurel High School is the oldest school in the PGPS system is not at all supported by the citation:

"In 1899, on the northeast corner of Montgomery and Eighth Streets, was built the FIRST HIGH SCHOOL IN PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY."

That does not refer to the current school, nor the current location of the school. To claim it is the oldest school based on this citation is clearly incorrect. The Dissident Aggressor 15:19, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

class of 1900 all women needs a better source[edit]

Using the WAPO article as a source is misleading. The Post didn't make the claim, rather they stated that an obscure local game show believed it to be true and used it as a trivia question. That's hardly a WP:RS. The Dissident Aggressor 15:23, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've made clear that the claim is by the local government (not a game show), as reported by the WAPO. The venue in which the information was used does not affect its accuracy. —ADavidB 00:13, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The claim wasn't made by any branch of any government. A government employee, Mike Lhotsk, claimed it on a TV show. That the employee works for the Parks and Recreation Department hardly makes him a reliable expert on historical educational demographics or in any way a WP:RS. I have reverted the edit and several others. Since when isn't the Washington Post a reliable source? Newspapers are by definition a reliable source. Although I agree a better source might be able to be found, one of the most respected newspapers in the world reporting something as a fact makes it, for our purposes, a fact. Lacking a source that says it isn't true, it is! And FYI, good journalism never makes any claim. They simply report on claims others make, verifying the facts thru their fact-checking process (which is what makes a source reliable--the existence of a fact-checking process). What we, as a tertiary source, do is report on what they report on. As far as the other edits go, I see no reason to remove the NRHP infobox. If there is an explanation, I will be happy to listen. On further investigation, there is an existing article on the old school. Therefore the NHRP infobox shouldn't be here. Content relating to the old school building (as opposed to the operations, students, academics, athletics, etc) should also be located in that article with a hatnote on the history section here directing ppl to the other article. And an addition on the subject of WP:RS: www.americancity.org does not appear in any way to be a reliable source; certainly not reliable enough to serve as the sole source for what is a very negative section.
