Mayor[edit]

We had this debate before. Ottawa just celebrated it 150th anniversary, not it 4th anniversary. Note the words "Mayor of Ottawa". Are we saying Jacquelin Holzman, Marion Dewar and Jim Watson were never mayors of Ottawa? O'Brien is the 58th person to be called a "mayor of Ottawa". No... O'Brien is the 2nd person to be called Mayor of the new amalgated City of Ottawa which is now shorten to Mayor of Ottawa.. But anyways, if we follow your statement, he's 59th, not 58th. --Deenoe 23:23, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, when the O'Brien people sent me an image, they also sent me some text, presumably for the article. Therefore, it is in the public domain.

The text sent to me is as follows:

Larry O’Brien was born in Grace Hospital and grew up on Holland Avenue. He Graduated Algonquin College in 1972 and after working for a number of technology ventures, started Calian Technologies Ltd (CTY:TSE) which he built into an Ottawa-based internationally competitive business that has reached annual sales of over $170 million. Calian was recently recognized by the National Quality Institute (NQI) with the Canada Award of Excellence -Gold Trophy for Quality and the Canada Award of Excellence -Silver Level for Healthy Workplace.


Larry raised his two sons, Michael and Matthew in Ottawa. He has been active in community projects including the Saint Vincent’s Hospital Foundation and was named in 2006, along with his wife Debbie O’Brien, United Way Community builder of the year. He has also been very active in the business community:

· past member of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council on Science and Technology (ACST)

· past chairman of the Sectoral Advisory Group on International Trade (SAGIT) on Information Technologies and Telecommunications (IT&T),

· co-chair’ of the Regional Economic Diversification Opportunities (REDO) committee

· Chairman of the Canadian Advanced Technology Association (CATA) from 1994 until 1996.

· 1996 Ottawa Carleton Board of Trade’s Business Person of the 1997 recipient of the Premier’s Award for Technology.

Irish Cat?[edit]

I've just made a research through the history and discovered that you're the one who've made that addition. Okay, even if I'm not a fan of blogs (often source of factual inaccuracies or false info) I've left a hidden note beside the category, so to show that this is not a Alm93 edit. Political Party?[edit]

Is there a source for the article's claim that O'Brien is a member of the Conservative Party of Canada? I heard it said several times through the campaign that he was not affiliated with any party. 209.217.82.98 19:29, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Formally affiliated to the Liberals[edit]

Check this out [2] There is no writting mention of the Liberals and his link to them (although the article and the webpage does says he work in a Council Advisor under the Jean Chretien admin (Chretien not mentionned here).

Although the guy misspelled Chretien for Cretien.

However, we need a source here for his link to the Conservative Party, seem to have heard it. the ex-Conservative member for the chief of staff position or his letter to John Baird about the LRT or deal with Terry Kilrea would not be enough. Yes, he is a former Liberal. He also was affiliated with the Canadian Alliance, and is now affiliated with the Conservatives. He was interviewed on CBC radio shortly after the election, and he stated this himself. -- Earl Andrew - talk 20:24, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wife's name[edit]

Was Debbie's maiden name O'Brien? I suspect not. Typical style is to say "John Smith married Jane Doe", not "John Smith married Jane Smith". If Debbie's maiden name is unknown, we could say "O'Brien had two sons with his wife, Debbie, who kept O'Brien's name following their divorce. The two were married in 1983." This is a pathetic and false accusation to a great Wikipedian. Simon Pulsifer has been working on Wikipedia for YEARS, and he perfectly knows the principles of neutral point-of-view, etc. Since he campaigned for Munter, should he albeit from editing any articles related to his opponents or to the election in general? No! Lex Luthor[edit]

So like I don't do the wikipedia edit thing much, so I don't know how to best go about this but stop removing my section on Lex Luthor. This is basically his nickname, virtually everyone of my friends and family members refer to him this way. "Mayor Luthor did this", "Did you hear what Lex did now", etc... May bloggers refer to him this way also.

I think it should be in there and it is not ridiculous.

You want to improve it fine, maybe we rename it to "derogatory nickname" or something, like this, but for now I am going to restore it.

I have added a Religion item to Jacquelin Holzman’s Infobox and had my edit reverted by user: Jonesey95 citing RfC: Religion in biographical infoboxes.
