Date of the founding of the parish[edit]

The microfilms that may be seen here https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L99S-NH1N?i=7&cc=1321742 show that ecclesiastical records (BMS) for the island were being kept as early as 1704. Perhaps (this is pure speculation) at first these were records made by missionary priests and kept at the house of Louis Dandonneau, Sieur Du Sablé, or that of his successor, Pierre Gaultier de Varennes, sieur de La Vérendrye, whom we know lived on the island. PRDH says the parish was founded in 1724. See, under L'Île-Dupas (La Visitation), https://www.prdh-igd.com/en/ListeParoissesSuivantNomUsuel . In any event, the date of the founding of the parish seems far too late. I see that the National Archives has a "fonds" collection seen here, https://advitam.banq.qc.ca/notice/420860 , that might offer a definitive answer. Thanks for your help. Thomas B.
