"diss"

LL Cool J Is Gay" is slang. Generally speaking this is one of the least professional pages I've ever seen on wikipedia. I would clean it up but I know nothing about LL Cool J. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AXington (talk • contribs) 18:49, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

If I had the time, I could rewrite this very fairly and professionally. However, the need for citation dampens my enthusiasm to redo this article correctly...especially since a lot of what I would write would be knowledge I have gained over the years of just being a fan of LL and rap music in general. The thing is that it is hard to clean up a page that gets vandalizes so often because LL is a figure who, due to his long tenure, has garnered a lot of fans and a lot of opponents over the years. - pac1983

Acting Roles

I understand that most of his career has been focused in the music industry, but I find this article glosses over his acting career. This is important, as I am sure there are many people out there who may not listen to his genre of music, and may have become familiar with him from his television or movie roles. Can someone make a specific section for his acting history, and perhaps eliminate the seemingly insignificant statements which have been sprinkled through the music history? An example of this would be 'He starred in In the House, an NBC sitcom, before releasing Mr. Smith (1995), which went on to sell over 2 million copies.' SJM 11 February 2007

loungin' remix

Hi there. I am trying to figure out what exactly is the "official" name of the song Loungin featuring Total. There are several variations on the web and even here on Wikipedia:

  • In LyricWiki the song's [http://lyricwiki.org/LL_Cool_J:Loungin%27_%28Who_Do_You_Love_Remix%29 called] Loungin' (Who Do You Love Remix)
  • In All World: Greatest Hits it is called Loungin (Who Do Ya Luv). By the way, this article seems to state that the remix was launched in "All World: Greatest Hits" while the original song was launched in "Mr. Smith"; this contradicts with Mr. Smith (album) on which (in the "track listing" section) it looks like the remix (by the name Loungin) was published as track #10 of "Mr. Smith" (unless the original song also featured Total), and later (on the "samples" section) makes it seem like the two tracks were published in the same album with slightly different names, Loungin' (the original) and Lounging' Remix (Summer Luv) (the remix)
  • In Total (band), the song goes by the name Loungin'/Who Do U Love? and then Loungin' (Who Do U Love?) later on
  • Finally, in Total discography it comes up as Loungin' (Who Do You Luv?) (in the "as guests" section), Loungin'/Who Do U Luv? (in the "guest vocals" section) and Loungin' (Who Do U Love?) (in the "music videos" section)

These are really too many variants. The official name has to be set and these articles edited to conform to it. Can someone help clarify this issue? --Waldir talk 14:03, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing me to the BMI repertoire search. Actually, the remix (which samples Bernard Wright's Who Do You Love) seems to be work #3746405. At least, it was the only one that included Bernard Wright in the composers list, so I suppose it is safe to assume it's that one. The legal name would therefore be "Loungin Remix", and I'll update all articles that refer to this title to reflect this. Thanks for your help. --Waldir talk 19:42, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Ok, actually there are still a few issues I'd like help with.
  1. Reading the articles Loungin, Mr. Smith (album) and All World: Greatest Hits, I think I could figure out the release timeline for the original Loungin and the Loungin Remix songs. Can someone confirm or deny the following? Loungin (November 7, 1995 / Mr. Smith) > Loungin + Loungin Remix (June 25, 1996 / Loungin) > Loungin Remix (November 5, 1996 / All World: Greatest Hits)
  2. Apparently, even though BMI only recognizes one legal name for the song, it has appeared with different titles on the multiple albums it has been released in. I suppose the titles on each album's article should be kept as they were released, perhaps with a reference to the legal name o the song, to avoid confusions such as this.
  3. Why is the song called Loungin Remix anyway? it has nothing to do with the original Loungin: the lyrics are different ([http://lyricwiki.org/LL_Cool_J:Loungin%27 original], [http://lyricwiki.org/LL_Cool_J:Loungin%27_%28Who_Do_You_Love_Remix%29 remix]), the songs they sample are different (original/original's sample, remix/remix's sample). I am tempted to fix the articles stating that the songs, despite their name, are unrelated, but I am afraid I cannot do that without being sure, so.... any help?

Once again there's contradiction: Discogs presents the following track listing:
  • A1: Loungin (Who Do Ya Luv Remix) (3:46)
  • A2: Loungin (Who Do Ya Luv Remix Instrumental) (3:46)
  • B1: Summer Luv (LP Version) (4:23)
  • B2: Summer Luv (Instrumental) (4:23)
...while the article Loungin has a slightly different listing:
  • A1: "Loungin'" (Radio Remix Edit)- 3:45
  • A2: "Loungin'" (LP Radio Edit)- 3:59
  • B1: "Loungin'" (LP Version)- 4:10
  • B2: "Summer Luv" -4:38
note the many differences: apart from the obvious discrepancy in B1, there's an apostrophe in the Wikipedia article, absent in Discogs; the duration is different, and the text in parenthesis too. The lead....

I'm a bit uneasy about how this is phrased:

"He now resides in Manhasset, New York with his wife and four children. The couple has also adopted several times."

Are we now determining that adopted children are not worth a mention as his children? I don't really know a whole lot about the family set up, but these sentences are very poorly written, especially in light of the fact that, unless I've missed it, there is no further exploration of the family dynamic. Are the four children adopted? Are some of them adopted? Are there other children? Or is the term 'adopted' being used in a loose sense, perhaps that they sponser children? If anyone knows more than what is written, I think the lead should be reworded. Sky83 (talk) 08:06, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Poorly written...

I suggest several articles receive re-writes. Several albums that, over time, have gone platinum have been stated as "not going platinum".

Also, the chronological statements of several events conflict with reality.

Not to mention, "Bigger and Deffer" and "Mama Said..." both sold over 3 million copies.

Agreed, this article is very badly written and sourced; a few minutes of reading and I've already changed/identified many problems. For example, the section on the album 14 Shots to the Dome stated that the album (went platinum despite having no single released,) however linking to the dedicated page for that album states the album went gold, and had 4 singles released. How can anyone allow this sort of thing? If you write a section on an album, at least cross-reference.Hrhadam (talk) 00:27, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Contradictions in place of birth and high school

LL Cool J was born in Bay Shore, NY and attended Bay Shore HS. Your article is erroneous in that it states two places of birth and incorrectly states his High School. Lede

The lede would be improved by removing the names of the other 2 rappers. MAYBE (doubtful), they could be worked into the main article. They definitely don't belong in the lede. rags (talk) 09:39, 6 August 2019 (UTC)

It's only the single that brought back LL's lost street credibility after the fallout from Walking With A Panther. Mind you, I am referring to the remix that eventually appeared on Mama Said Knock You Out, not the original from Walking With A Panther. Could someone add that part in?

Rick Rubin — whole paragraph?

In the section **1985–1987: Radio**, the last paragraph is fairly detailed, and stops being about LL Cool J's album after the first sentence. Reduce that entire paragraph to perhaps just its first sentence, and also link to Rick Rubin ("instead")? not-just-yeti (talk) 00:03, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

End of section about marriage

Is it necessary to put "As of 2024, the couple remain married.[citation needed]" I would think it is implied unless otherwise noted. However I don't know if that is customary on Wikipedia. EmmRose (talk) 19:32, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
