Name[edit]

We have an opinion, that the town Korsakov has been named after M. I. Korsakov, as in Russian and Finnish wikipedia, not A. Dondukov-Korsakov, like in Netherlands and English wikipedia, with compliments --Höyhens 16:28, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Corrected and referenced. Thanks for catching this.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 16:53, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I only translated the English version into Dutch. I didn't check the content. Merca81 16:55, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're right [1]. Fixed on the Dutch wiki. --Hardscarf 17:06, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Korsakov is mentioned in the fictive novel Noble House by James Clavell as a new sub base (in 1963) --RobiBuecheler (talk) 03:07, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removed the following paragraph: "The town was Japanese fishing port called Kushunkotan (久春古丹), developed by Matsumae clan from 1679. In 1806, Russian sailors set a fire on Kushunkotan. They attacked the village again in 1853, setting a garrison nearby. In 1875, the whole Sakhalin including the village was ceded to Russia, under the Treaty of Saint Petersburg." Reason: possible historical inaccuracy, lack of sources, potentially contributing to a one-sided view of Korsakov's history. Noting that there may be different interpretations of Korsakov's early history, both versions need to be set out here for the sake of a balanced account. I may do so in the days ahead. Japanese editors - can you please find suitable images of Otomari and upload here? Thanks. Radchenk (talk) 09:17, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
