Untitled[edit]

I just made edits to the bit about Knox being a 'true' Oxbridge college. As an Otago alumna now at an Oxford college, I know this is not correct. There were several problems with the text: - the key to being an Oxbridge college is that virtually all your education happens within the college; this isn't true at Knox - Knox does have tutorials, but they are not like Oxford ones, which are weekly one-on-one or two-on-one sessions with a university professor or other advanced academic - Article implied Knox was unique in having tutorials -- in fact, all the halls do - All the halls have 'masters', they just don't call them that I've replaced it with some text highlighting the 'feel' and terminology of Knox, which indeed aspires to be like an Oxbridge college.

That's certainly the case. You could mention the rivalry between Knox and Selwyn, e.g. the Cameron Sheifl and Neville Cup, etc.

Proposal for development and declaration of interests[edit]

Dear Wikipedia editors & users with interest in Knox College and related articles,

Over the past few days I've put together a draft revision of the Knox College, Otago article and, in accordance with Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest advice, would like the green light to go ahead with posting them. I am the Senior Tutor for Knox and receive a scholarship from the College; this does not include any obligation to advocate for the College, either implied or direct. However, this may make me, in some sense, an "officer" of the College and it seems most appropriate to declare my status here before considering any substantial amendments.

As such, I have prepared a Proposal under my userpage and would appreciate any WP:COI feedback before going ahead with those changes. It would be helpful for any updates to the draft article to be reserved until any proposed changes enter mainspace, to avoid developing a separate edit history. Please discuss any WP:COI issues below then, if it is decided that the proposed changes may be enacted, all necessary improvements can be made to the real article at your earliest convenience!

The proposal was originally going to be included here, but for the sake of brevity and in accordance with WP:Talkpage advice to keep the talkpage tidy, it is linked above instead.

With best wishes

Hi Philtweir, I've reviewed your proposal and it looks fine. I recommend removing the section beginning "The selective nature" as you considered. Apart from that, I'd be more than happy to see the article changed to reflect your proposal. Great work. That's my $0.02 worth (Disclosure: My father was a Knoxman). Thanks Blarneytherinosaur, much appreciated! Will get on to reorganising templates and sorting that out. Cheers! Philtweir (talk) 21:34, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Refs[edit]

A few more independent references might be good, if anybody has some - most of the sources are published by Knox :s Nothing contentious I don't think, just uncontested statements, such as '17 Rhodes Scholars' or the 'Visitor is...', with the possible exception of the Ross Fellowship being the University's oldest fellowship, (now) cited to a statement by the college about the University. As such, I've toned down the original entry to 'one of the oldest' as this seems less likely to raise objection.Philtweir (talk) 03:14, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
