Corrections of Clear Errors[edit]

Hello friends,

The original article read in part that Kawakami "published several anti-war books in the United States and the United Kingdom." This information was perhaps from the web site "biographybase," which stated that he "published several books in the US and UK to stop the War."

Here is a lesson for all Wikipedians. The above is not, strictly speaking, wrong. But if you ask if Hitler was a nice person, and I answer "he was kind to animals," that wouldn't be incorrect either - "strictly speaking." In fact, Kawakami was engaged in whitewashing the Japanese military seizure of Manchuria to defuse American anger towards Japan, thereby "stopping" (the word here is meant to mean "preventing," presumably) the war. (Note that the Japanese version here notes that he was in fact considered an apologist for Japanese imperialism and was even arrested after the outbreak of war.)

It is true he was a socialist in his youth, but again, this misleads more than it informs. David Horowitz was an editor of Ramparts in his youth. There are many instances of such flip-flopping on the part of ideological extremists, and here, I think, is another.

Finally, it should be noted that the website linked to at the bottom of the page is highly ideological, and therefore spurious. --Gunnermanz (talk) 02:54, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A reference if anyone is interested.[edit]

I came across this article, published the day after Pearl Harbor. I was reading that newspaper then decided to Google his name, which led me here. It's short but to the point and is probably a helpful reference if anyone is interested in using it. What interested me was the speed in which he was arrested. The day after, they were in a hurry.
