Ian Dowbiggin[edit]

This person is hostile to voluntary euthanasia and for his views on Millard to form the whole article, as they do now, raises undue weight issues. For an example of Dowbiggin's views, we have "Dr. Dowbiggin makes the case that Canadians and Americans should not support the legalization of either assisted suicide or actual mercy-killing." I have restored the use of Dowbiggin as a source. I strongly disagree with Dowbiggin, and there are a few things which I find concerning about his paper in the Journal of Contemporary History, but it is a reliable source for the history of the euthanasia movement in Britain. It cites research done by Nick Kemp for the book Merciful release, which I've used heavily in the history section of Dignity in Dying. There's nothing wrong with using Dowbiggin as a source for the history of euthanasia. His anti-euthanasia POV is not hidden and he doesn't seem to mangle the facts. —Tom Morris (talk) 10:12, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
