Irony?[edit]

I took out the bit about KF's panic attack "ironically" occurring on the same day as the Dawson College shootings because I don't see any irony in that coincidence. I also don't see any relevant connection – what do panic attacks have to do with murders which happen later in the day and 500 km away? John FitzGerald 18:24, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I added dates to North Bay, Ontario#Notable People, I am now following instructions.[edit]

I removed this persons birthdate because Magnolia677 told me to, I quote the discussion on their user page:

== I don't understand what you are trying to do. ==
I included the lifespans of the people on the list of Notable people at North Bay, Ontario. Some of these people are alive, some are dead. Their life span indicates what time these people were notable, and reveals something of the history of North Bay. I have accessed that information from the wikipedia pages on these people.
Are you suggesting that we can only include those dates if we repeat the references from the linked wikipedia pages. Are you suggesting that for every list of people, "Notable people", "People with this Surname" &c,. we can only include any information if we reference it on the secondary page. You removed dates because you say they are not referenced adequately. The list at North Bay assumes that the people have a connection to North Bay, there are no references for this on the North Bay Notable people list. The notable people list mentions their occupation/reason for notability, this is unreferenced. Therefore by your logic, unless each name on that list has a reference on that page for their connection to North Bay, and for their reason of notability, there should be no listing. The Notable People on that that page don't have any references on that page. Should we remove the entire list? I am going to return my edit, reverse your undoing Brunswicknic (talk) 11:02, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
:@Brunswicknic: Thank you for writing. What I am trying to do is maintain one of the cornerstone policies of Wikipedia, which requires that additions to the encyclopedia be sourced. At North Bay, Ontario, you seem to want to undermine that by adding birthdays for all the notable people listed. First, if readers want the birthdays of the people listed there, they will visit the article. More important, you have "sourced" the birthdays by copying them from the target article. I reverted your edit, and told you you cannot source one Wikipedia article with information on another Wikipedia article (per WP:CIRC), but now you insist on edit warring over your unsourced content. Ok, let's try this. With this edit you added that Kevin Frankish was born in 1964. If you look at the article for Kevin Frankish you will see that his birthday is unsourced. This is why I mentioned CIRC in my edit summary; because copying info from one crappy article and placing it into another article creates two crappy articles. I have again reverted your unsourced edit, and left a warning on your talk page. I caution you not to edit war over unsourced and unnecessary content. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 13:46, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
::@Magnolian677: You say that one birtdate is unreferenced yet you revert everything. If you have a problem with the unsourced date of Frankish then why don't we deal with it at that page, I and other readers will not then be mislead as to the date. I have gone to that page and deleted the date. Now, you say "you cannot source one Wikipedia article with information on another Wikipedia article (per WP:CIRC)". OK, the entire list of Notable people is based on those people appearing in wikipedia articles. I repeat, the reason that wikipedia gives for those people appearing in a list of notable people, the reason that the list is given in the North Bay article, the reason that only people with a wkipedia article appear on the list, is because they are sourced from wikipedia articles. By your instructions, by your relevant citing of the policy, therefore, I will remove the list of Notable people from the North Bay list.Brunswicknic (talk) 06:58, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
