Requested move 7 December 2017[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved. There is clear consensus that this article must be renamed; however, neither the proposed title, Kappa-dera, nor the suggested rename, Kappa Temple, has achieved consensus. A scan of appropriate categories and subcategories reveals only one other article with "Temple" in its name. All the rest are in Japanese and exclude the English "Temple" from their titles. So the standard appears to be to use the Japanese name, "Kappa-dera". As is usual when there is consensus to rename but no consensus for the closer's choice of name, any editor may at any time open a new requested move discussion in an attempt to garner consensus for a different title for this article. Kappa-dera TempleKappa-dera – Kappa-dera temple" is a tautology and should be moved to Kappa-dera to bring it in line with wiki naming convention for Japanese temples (cf. Kiyomizu-dera). • Move to Kappa Temple, which is substantially more common in Google Books.[1]--Cúchullain t/c 21:05, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Kappa-dera, it makes sense to bring it in line with the wiki naming standard for other Japanese tables. The search for "Kappa Temple" above at Google Books seems to have pulled in several results that have nothing to do at all with this temple in Japan, even on the first page of results, whereas Kappa-dera brings up only the actual temple. • Move to Kappa Temple as "dera" is a common suffix that means temple.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 21:04, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • "that means temple" :: only to people who know Japanese language. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 06:04, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
      • As this is English Wikipedia, we should be making article titles as translated as possible.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 12:35, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Closer's note[edit]

I have opened another RM at Talk:Renkōji Temple#Requested move 31 December 2017 to rename the only article left in Category:Buddhist temples in Tokyo that has the English word "Temple" in its page title. Feel free to support or oppose that RM as well.  Paine Ellsworth  put'r there  12:22, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
