I just saw Shapiro in her Globe Trekker of Ecuador. Really ownderful! She really stretched that documentary in may directions. I would think she would be a good actress as well.

This Wiki doesn't have appropriate references to validate the stated information. For instance, the Wiki states that Shapiro was born in south Africa but later describes how she only lived there. There is a chasm between these two remarks. Having more time, I'll try to find some sources. (Oxfordden (talk) 15:33, 23 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I entered a quote about her being "Jewish American" on the wiki page. Their official episode guide doesn't have the transcript, but has a similar description. wiki-ny-2007 (talk) 04:57, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What constitutes a reliable source?[edit]

1) Bbb23 has rejected this sentence - 'Furthermore, in the documentary Our summer in Tehran she stated publically she was Jewish as were both her parents' - as not having a reliable source; (Benyoch revision as of 14:36, 29 March 2012). I ask, why does the documentary itself not constitute a reliable source. My view is that the source is quoted and the statement is verifiable (or not). Notably, the website for the documentary is listed on the article and if someone wants to check the source then they can access the documentary and do so. So, what's the problem other than someone might not want to go to the trouble of checking the source? Benyoch (talk) 06:10, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2) Furthermore, Bbb23 has rejected the IMDb database as an unreliable source. Why is this so? What constitutes a reliable secondary source for the likes of Shapiro and her filmography if IMDb does not? Is there another secondary source that is reliable? If so, how is it determined to be reliable? Is there a WP policy that states IMDb is not a reliable source? Benyoch (talk) 06:10, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try to tackle your questions. First, see the guidelines for reliable sources. This (and the associated linked pages) should give you what you want to know. IMDb is generally accepted as an external link, but not as a reliable source. You can also see WP:IMDB for a little more on that subject. Regarding using her statements in the documentary, I expect that those will be fine; but you will need to specifically cite the documentary using a reference. In other words, provide a citation of the transcript or film. Content on Wikipedia must be verifiable, which is ultimately why another editor reverted your edits. I hope this helps! --Tgeairn (talk) 06:23, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Tgeairn, I will look into these things. Benyoch (talk) 14:32, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
