Modern Lushootseed spelling[edit]

The English speaking settlers were often bad at recording the nuances of Lushootseed pronunciation. I've seen Tahb-tahb-iuh, TUHB-tuh-byook', and TAHB-tah-byook'w. The translation is recorded as "loamy place", but I'm having trouble finding anything in the Bates et al. dictionary that would correspond to loam. I think that the last syllable is probably bixʷ because byook'w is also what settlers recorded the last syllable of Snoqualmie (sdukʷalbixʷ) as. AdJHu 胡 22:57, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

To follow up on this, I found and cited the proper source for the modern Lushootseed spelling, including the page numbers. Puget Sound Geography by Waterman et al. is probably the most reputable source there is on place names in the Puget Sound area. AdJHu 胡 23:11, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
