Relationship to the Duke of Rohan?[edit]

I note that this house and family shares its pronunciation with the town of Josselin in France, home of the Duke of Rohan who, during the French Revolution, changed their surname to "Josselin" to avoid identification as a nobleman and thus avoid the guillotine. Are George and Sarah Joslyn related to the Duke of Rohan? Andrew Oakley (talk) 16:38, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Choice of word folly[edit]

A folly is a structure built primarily for decoration without concern for other purposes. The opening sentence of this article right now is "The George and Sarah Joslyn Home, known locally as Joslyn Castle, is a folly located at 3902 Davenport Street in the Gold Coast Historic District of Omaha, Nebraska, USA." It was built as a residence so folly does not seem an accurate description. The building has a decorative style but does not meet the definition of folly. Does anyone have an objection to removing the word folly? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.71.95.31 (talk) 20:23, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A folly is built primarily for decoration, but it can have another significant purpose. The examples section on the Folly page lists many instances, including: Swallow's Nest (Crimea), constructed as the residence of a Russian general; Black Castle Public House, constructed as a bar; Lucy the Elephant, constructed as a hotel. Joslyn Castle definitely fits into these categories, so reverting. Sorry for the delay in replying. Andrew Oakley (talk) 17:14, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
See also Category:Folly buildings in the United States for many other examples of residences in the USA which are considered follies. Andrew Oakley (talk) 17:17, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
