Verbatim text from encyclopedia published in 1900[edit]
It looks like much of the section about Cogswell's career as a librarian has been lifted verbatim from the Appletons' Cyclopædia of American Biography cited at the end. Would be better to re-write this text in contemporary language and remove the late 19th century language about brillant "table talk", etc.
