Untitled[edit]

I saw one article that said that Machado was misunderstood - that he had been used as the Castro's troubleshooter, solving problems and that had given him a reputation as a hard-liner that was not really accurate. I'll try to locate that article.

On the other hand, he is known in Cuba as the man who took away Christmas. -- Beardo (talk) 21:48, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"There aren't too many people in Cuba who can be outshined by Raul Castro. Machado Ventura might be one of them," said Daniel Erikson, vice president at the Inter-American Dialogue, a Washington think tank specializing in Latin America.

"One of Fidel Castro's secrets to political success was having a loyal No. 2 who he could easily overshadow, that being Raul Castro," he added. "I feel like Raul Castro might be taking a page from Fidel's playbook in picking a No. 2 who has his back."
