No mention of Lyerly Alexander, "Cousin Mary"
I know very little about Coltrane, but I know his song "Cousin Mary" shows up on several of his albums and Alexander, who the song was inspired by, was very close to him. Running across her obituary today, I sought to update whatever Wikipedia might have to say about her. As there is no article for Alexander or the song, I looked for somewhere to link a redirect from her name, the song title or both.
As I didn't find any particular coverage of the song (a bit of an oversight, IMO), I thought at least a line or two concerning her, the house and his time in Philly would be a good target. I'm looking for an opinion from someone a bit more familiar with the collection of Coltrane articles for thoughts on where to add a couple of sentences and target a redirect. This article? - @SummerPhDv2.0: based on the source you cited, Porter (1998), and the collection of articles we already have, all of your proposed changes would work. Currently, the majority of the content (limited as it might be) appears in the John Coltrane House article. Viriditas (talk) 19:32, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
- I'm a bit reluctant to do anything there myself for two reasons:
- 1) I know very little about Coltrane, so I'd have to either read a good bit to get up to speed on base anything I add entirely on the obit. (I generally tend to treat obits as if they were primary sources, though they generally aren't. Mostly, it's just a matter of the writing style tending to be slanted toward an unreasonably "sunny" veiw of the subject.)
- 2) Everything I can seem to find about the house makes it sound like a stagnant project, with no updates in 5 or 6 years. Any additions would have to tread cautiously around anything more recent than 2012 or so.
- I'll let this sit for a little bit, in the vain hope that someone else will do the work, then come back when I have less reading and writing already on my plate. - SummerPhDv2.0 19:50, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
