Substance[edit]

Some serious substance is needed about her term as mayor beyond just how she tried to promote her allies in the democratic political machine. She moved into Cabrini-Green for a while to call attention to crime, but everyone in Chicago already knew about crime. She called attention to gay rights, but what did she actually do for the gay community? What policies and programs did she enact to reduce crime, create jobs, fix schools, repair streets, build parks or improve housing? Did she balance budgets? None of that is here, instead we have the story about the race to save the climber. Of course, maybe this lack of any real substance is the truest statement of all about the mayor whose only real claim to fame seems to have been as a "snowstorm mayor."58.141.100.151 (talk) 12:58, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's not an error. Campaigning had begun before Washington's death, and Washington did endorse Puchinski. It's also worth noting that Washington and Byrne loathed each other. Jhobson1 (talk) 13:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not the first female mayor[edit]

No, the statement is sourced and your removal is both original research and statistically false, nor does that Wikipedia article state otherwise. Seattle in the 1920s was small compared to Chicago in both the 1920s and in the 1970s, and has never even been top ten in American history.
