Birth Place (Correct or False?)[edit]

It's now listed as Fox Chase, Philadelphia, but the "early" section says he was born in Chicago. Now, this isn't a source or anything, but he is seen drinking Yuengling and Rolling Rock in a few of his videos, which to me strongly indicates he has some roots in Pennsylvania, even if he wasn't born there. Anyway, it would be great if we could confirm.

I am not sure why Rolfe's birth place is listed as Penns Grove, New Jersey - Can someone verify this please? F1fan1000 (talk) 14:47 (UTC)

"James Rolfe (Actor)"?[edit]

I'm under the impression that he considers himself a director before an actor. 66.68.156.77 (talk) 18:58, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

-- Ageed. James D. Rolfe is a director and film maker before he is an actor. His passion lies in making movies: directing, shooting, editing. Of course since most of his movies are not shot in a studio or with a set of (professional) actors, he often has to appear before the camera himself.

Hence I suggest we change the title of the article from 'actor' to 'film maker' or 'director'... otherwise we could also change it to 'internet celebrity' since James Rolfe is most known due to his internet show 'Angry Video Game Nerd'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.229.160.24 (talk) 20:04, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

People self-identifying as alcoholics[edit]

Where in the article does he say he is an alcoholic? Has he said so in an interview, or drank too many Rolling Rocks and Yuenglings on screen? USN1977 (talk) 03:57, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tags on top of page are uncessary[edit]

How does the tags at the top of the page suggest that the article is proposed to be merged and reliable sources are lacking when they are both uncessary. I do not believe there will be much support for this. I suggest that they be removed when an agreement is made on how the article is to be improved. Z105space (talk) 18:09, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmmmm....[edit]

Did James write this article himself? 70.180.188.238 (talk) 18:36, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know. -- Dilly Mackey (Talk to me!)

Spouse's name?[edit]

There's a blog post from Rolfe that confirms he's married; however, it doesn't mention his wife's name. Have we got a reliable source for it or anything else about their marriage? —C.Fred (talk) 19:42, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 7 November 2014[edit]

I would like to include some more of his movies on here in the filmography section of the page, that are found on both imdb.com and cinemassacre.com. JaredWignall 05:20, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

And what are those movies? Stickee (talk) 05:45, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure Mr. Rolfe would also like for his movies to be relevant to an encyclopedia.  :) — Smuckola (Email) (Talk) 06:10, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Some of them are short films, like a Rocky parody he made called Stoney. Another is a horror film called The Deader the Better. Also, he's made a new You Know What's Bullshit? episode, so that's no longer on hiatus as it says right now. JaredWignall 01:08, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Titles/jobs[edit]

Aside from the fact that I believe adding "Theme Song writer" is a textbook example of over-enthusiastic fans (nice throwback to the original term "fanatics") submitting superfluous information, I'm also pretty sure James didn't write the theme song. In several commentaries of Board James-episodes he explains outsourcing the various musical parts to others. I don't have any direct source available but I seem to recall Kyle Justin talking about writing the theme song. However, I am going to remove the reference specifying Rolfe as "Theme Song Writer" on the grounds that: There is no source given; It's doubtful the information is accurate; the text links to "Songwriter", which implies a lot more than writing your own one-off theme song; and in the grander scheme of things it simply isn't very relevant information to help describe someone who is mainly a film-maker.OmikronWeapon (talk) 11:42, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support I was initially going to oppose until I saw the page view statistics. That's pretty convincing that people who read Wikipedia consider this article to be the primary topic. JOJ Hutton 17:44, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace[edit]

Where is the source for his birthplace in Penns Grove?--108.24.123.189 (talk) 00:09, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure where the source came from. There are some sources indicating he was raised in NJ,[1][2] but I have not come acrosss anything that meets WP:RS. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  01:30, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Controversy"[edit]

Do we really need an entire subsection for his opinion on the Ghostbusters reboot and the reactions some had to that? It seems highly undue, and not entirely neutral for a BLP. Prinsgezinde (talk) 00:43, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think it might be worth keeping a small mention og it in the article, but an entire section seems a bit much. It should be trimmed and relocated given this has little impact on Rolfe today and the controversy faded away with Ghostbusters 2016. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  23:53, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a "legacy" section?[edit]

James Rolfe is probably (in my opinion) the most important internet creator of all time. If you don't agree with that, you have to agree that he is one of the most important gaming creators of all time. Although he still creates videos, I'd say he still has a legacy and his influence on the internet gaming scene is impossible to overstate. Bristledidiot (talk) 14:36, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Use of Reddit as a source[edit]

Reddit seems to be one of the main sources for this article with recent edits. While I don't mean to discredit any if the sources used, I believe we should look to more sound references than social media platforms. The Okay-At-Best Mr. IS (talk) 06:14, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that Reddit is not considered a reliable source per WP:USERGEN - "Examples of unacceptable user-generated sites are Wikipedia, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, Reddit, IMDb, Ancestry.com, Find a Grave, and ODMP." A subject's Twitter account can be regarded as reliable source, but it has to meet the criteria stated in WP:SELFSOURCE. While I am not saying these allegations are false, they don't sufficiently satisfy WP:RS and should be removed. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  15:08, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the section and reintegrated the Ghostbusters controversy part into previous paragraphs. I couldn't find reliable sources on any of the other topics. The Cheetahmen controversy seems like a fairly minor episode in the retrogaming community, Google mainly yields links to various online forums. Bootsy's departure is only partially related to Rolfe, as neither of the provided "sources" mentions him at all. Seems like it was background drama that sometimes happens on YT channels - I doubt it belongs on Wikipedia. KtosKto64 (talk) 07:41, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

270 "films"?[edit]

From what I've seen James say over the years he considers pretty much every video he makes a 'film', but should that be recognised here? As the citation mentions, he considers movie reviews to be films which at best stretches what can be considered to be acceptable in a filmography. If this was the case Roger Ebert would be one of the most prolific film makers around 38.70.11.18 (talk) 00:48, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've edited sentence. Calling a video review or skit a 'film' is a bit of a stretch. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  00:56, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Middle Name[edit]

I remember seeing on here that his middle name is Duncan, and he's the third. If that's true shouldn't his full name be spelled out? If not written where his birthdate is? --Deady3728 (talk) 23:10, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

His actual middle name is not known. If you click on the reference next to his name, Rolfe himself states it's not Duncan, but it does start with D. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  23:16, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
