Treatment?[edit]

Selma to Montgomery marches says "The worst injured was James Reeb, a white Unitarian Universalist minister from Boston. Selma's public hospital refused to treat Rev. Reeb, who had to be taken to Birmingham's University Hospital, two hours away. Reeb died on Thursday, March 11 at University Hospital with his wife by his side."

The part about Selma's public hospital refusing to treat him isn't mentioned here. As it's not directly sourced in that article, I'm reluctant to add it here but if it can be source, it should be added here. Additional info like if the hospital ever gave any reason would also be ideal. Nil Einne (talk) 15:43, 19 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Boston?[edit]

If he was born and raised in Kansas and Wyoming, studied in Minnesota and New Jersey, and was minister in Washington DC, how was he from Boston? Cripipper (talk) 15:59, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

He was "from Boston" in the sense that he had gone to Selma "from Boston", as he had lived and worked there for about a year. Jeffrey Henning (talk) 16:57, 17 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lynching not murder[edit]

I think we should call what happened to him a lynching, not murder. You murder someone specific for a personal beef. Lynchings were often directed at random targets, or people about whom very little was known by the attackers. In this case, he was an Northern man come to help blacks, and he ate in a black (not "integrated") restaurant. It was done by a group (lynchings are always by a group). Three found not guilty by an all-white jury. It fits pretty well. Anyone get bent out of shape if I change it? deisenbe (talk) 00:46, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Murderers[edit]

In June 19, 2019, am NPR interview of William Portwood reveals that he was one of the attackers of Reeb. Portwood confirms the presence of Cook, Hoggle, and Hoggle but not Kelly. A google search of Portwood does not reveal any other corroborating evidence of his participation in Reeb's murder. In the interview, Portwood said he lied to the FBI and in court. Court files are of no use as they are redacted "the FBI interviewed XXXX"
