Stephen Fry gave this anecdote about her[edit]

A director thought that trying to explain the modern process of Chroma Key to her (as she was elderly at that time) would be a good idea due to the process being utilised on a TV show she was working on at the time (it involves electronically projecting a false scene onto a green background). As he began laboriously explaining the process to her, she interrupted him saying - "I'm sorry, you're mistaking me for someone who gives a fuck." STOP THE FILTHY LANGUAGE!!!

"She never married"[edit]

IT ABSOLUTELY IS NOT 'a euphemism'! It merely means someone didn't marry. Not everyone who is single all their life is gay.

This is (perhaps not deliberate) old-fashioned code for identifying someone as lesbian or gay, and perhaps should be deleted? She is included in this event celebrating gay entertainers http://www.cinemamuseum.org.uk/2014/gay-entertainers-an-appreciation/ but I can't see any other evidence or discussion of her being a lesbian.

Details of interest[edit]

If Kenneth Williams wrote about her in his diary, he must have either loved her or hated her - it would be interesting to know his verdict.

Her two novels - it would be interesting to know what they were about. 86.145.152.144 (talk) 05:57, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Up to 36?[edit]

Do we know anything about her life before the age of 36? Valetude (talk) 00:46, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not really[edit]

"It was common at this time for younger daughters not to marry in order to stay with and take care of their widower fathers." Not really. Robin J Thomson (talk) 18:47, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
