"However, Ms. Cara has never voted or registered to do so in Florida"

Is there a valid source for this statement? Her official response (via publicist) was "But she is adamant she was born in 1964. I can't explain the voting record, and there's no way she wants to talk about it."[1] --Fallout boy 06:44, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

There is NO way she was born in 1964, that would make her 12 years old when she made Sparkle and 15 when she did Fame.Hilljayne 23:17, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

No mention of Sparkle?

This is pretty much what put her on the map. Hilljayne 23:19, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Not to mention it is the movie where she hit her highest note during, "Look Into Your Heart" she goes into whistle register and sings an A6.

Escalera or Carattini?

I see that her real name is supposedly Irene Escalera. I remeber someone in Puerto Rico who claimed to be her father and his surname was Carattini, which is closer to "Cara" than Escalera. Just wondering! Pr4ever 21:33, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Spanish songs of Irene Cara

Folks, does anyone have a Spanish songs of Irene Cara because she speaks Spanish? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.90.178.88 (talk) 14:26, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Not Afro-Puerto Rican

Afro-Puerto Ricans are black persons from Puerto Rico, not children of persons of United States black (African-American) descent who marry Puerto Rican people. Cara does not belong in this category; Cheo Feliciano and Rafael Ithier belong in that category. I am adjusting this to reflect the correction. --Noopinonada (talk) 03:08, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Confusion regarding birth year

According to IMDb.com, Irene Cara was born in 1959. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.0.72.63 (talk) 22:36, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

And her own web site says she was born in 1964. Go figure. http://www.irenecara.com/bio.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xrlq (talkcontribs) 00:00, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

The first line of the article and the infobox both state 1962, but the category 1959 births is present. Nietzsche 2 (talk) 09:30, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

The '62 and '64 year-of-birth claims are patently false - Cara's definitely older than thirteen/fourteen in her 1975-76 film roles Aaron Loves Angela and Sparkle. '59 makes sense.--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 22:21, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

It's 1959 - her Geritol Amateur Hour was clearly mid-60s and she was 8 then. You can see it on Youtube. It's in black and white and she's got a flip hairdo. Let's stick with 59. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PrOgQe6lfA —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.104.200.114 (talk) 12:33, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Daytime Emmy

Cara has been placed in the category, Daytime Emmy Winners. However the article makews no mention of a daytime emmy for Cara and I could not find it elsewhere on the internet. This is also causing confusion on the EGOT page. I am removing her from that page, and will remove her from the category soon, unless evidence of a daytime emmy can be found.Givememoney17 (talk) 06:00, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Unsourced allegations

It does not matter whether "everyone knows" something - controversial negative comments about living people must be sourced, including on talk pages. Fences&Windows 13:24, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

Who keeps removing the mentioning of [removed]. It is a widely known fact that Irene Cara [removed]. How can we have a article about Irene Cara and not even have a small paragraph about [removed]? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.251.112.134 (talk) 01:51, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Fan Page, Nothing More

Why does the article read like a fan page. I understand you (administrator) may be a fan of Irene Cara (I like her too) but obviously you understand this is not a fan page. Everything in the article reads that way -Everything. It is widely known that [removed], and for you to constantly remove this whenever it is added to the article is deplorable. A short paragraph of 3-5 sentences touching on this is being removed by you. [removed], what makes Cara so special? There is even a line in the article that states she had a pilot air on NBC in 1981 called "Irene" and even though it had good reviews the network didn't pick it up for the fall season. Now, there is no proof it received good reviews because there is no link to verify this; in fact it had a few negative reviews if I recall correctly. So I changed that to "somewhat good reviews" and that it wasn't picked up due to low ratings, which is true. You changed it back to "good reviews" (dropping the "somewhat", again with no link to prove this) and you dropped off it wasn't picked up due to low ratings. Well it a network runs a pilot and decides not to air the show for the new season, that's obviously due to the low ratings. Come on. This is not a fan page. Irene Cara (as much as I like her) has not done everything perfect in her career, so stop acting like she has.

I think the basic problem was that your edits made allegations without backing them up with references. Here are some to get started with, though I'm not sure these are really reliable sources - Pointillist (talk) 20:18, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

I've erased the sentence "Nothing in this heading indicates "international acclaim" on the heading Fame and International Acclaim JanisNisii (talk) 19:42, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Death, real or sad fake ?

For completeness, the publisher reported the death on her Twitter page: https://twitter.com/Irene_Cara/status/1596392865948499968 So if the profile is not hacked it may be real. Strange is the as og yesterday her Twitter reported an update of her podcast series. Peter.dittmann (talk) 11:17, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

Yes, she has died as it is now in other sources. Like you though, I am suspicious of Twitter as accounts can get hacked, even if they have blue tick marks.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 11:26, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
FYI: She's dead.108.16.207.46 (talk) 17:08, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

She’s dead alright, but when? I can’t find a source for the current death date. The official statement doesn’t mention when she died.

This source says "The Oscar-winning singer and actress was found deceased at her home in Florida on Friday, her publicist confirmed". This isn't made clear in the Twitter statement but November 25 appears to be correct.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 20:24, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

Parents surnames

I have changed the father surname from Escalera to Cara. The article at People used as citation must be wrong. I have used the enciclopedia reference we have already at the end of the paragraph that estates Cara as his surname. This has sense following Spanish surname conventions: first surname from the father and second surname from the mother. So I added Escalera as her mother surname. Alexcalamaro (talk) 07:47, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

"Hispanic Black" is incorrect.

The term is Afro-Latino or Afro-Latina (feminine). Please change this. 172.6.103.225 (talk) 09:47, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

1959, or 1962?

Her date of birth is disclosed as March 18, 1962 on her official Twitter profile. Wikipedia claims she was born in 1959. Which one is correct? 2001:56A:F074:500:A4B2:4F57:747D:3A3B (talk) 05:05, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

1959 is correct, per multiple reliable sources. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 05:23, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank you!
I wonder why 1962 is the birth year on her official Twitter. 2001:56A:F074:500:C4F9:47C0:716A:3EA (talk) 22:38, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
