Wikipedia in Prisons?[edit]

It occurs to me that Wikipedia - due to being a Mediawiki platform - could well be downloaded by correctional institutions, any inappropriate articles stripped out, and then that copy sent to and installed on local computers that are not connected to the Internet for browsing by inmates. They could update it once a year. The server should be able to turn off talk pages, editing, etc in Local Settings.--Varkman (talk) 13:08, 28 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

“…any inappropriate articles stripped out…”.
Can you please explain what you mean by that? MrJack100 (talk) 12:13, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is available in some prisons. I couldn’t get anyone to publish this, so I self-published on the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/402-eea-70-07-eb-43-a-8-89-fb-3-a-93-f-2-ae-9176

Norway[edit]

The information about Norway is not quite correct. There is the possibility of Internet access but only under strict conditions and never are prisoners allowed to communicate with others through it. This needs to be clarified. I will add a reference to the Norwegian government (it is in Norwegian but anyone can use Google translate and the page is very clear and official) --Periergeia (talk) 18:54, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Entry for Belgium[edit]

I think the entry for Belgium reads like marketing material, is poorly written, unsourced and makes the article worse. I'll remove it, but leave it below for others to review if they are so inclined:

Belgium

Since 2013, Belgium has in 1 prison (in Beveren) a solution called PrisonCloud installed. It is a secure electronic platform that is installed in every cell. Amongst IPTV, Video on Demand, E-learning, Webshop, Request forms, Calendar, TeleVisitation, ... and many others there is also a secured internet available. Categorized in different areas of interest only approved websites are offered to the inmates. They can only surf to that specific website, have no break out possibilities to other websites and every form field on every web page of an allowed website can be blocked. This gives the prison the opportunity to open up websites that otherwise would not be possible, especially Learning Management Systems on the Internet.
