References to older series[edit]

I've noticed a couple of times editors making statements like "Penny is now 14 years old and now an agent in training." or "[Gadget] is still the unintelligent, gullible, and incompetent cyborg". This is peculiar to me because we are expecting the reader to be familiar with the original series to understand this new information. If they are not familiar with the series, this sort of phrasing is confusing. "She's now 14? How old was she before?" If we are going to present real-world information about the series, then it should be done in a smart way, for instance by providing context like, "In the original Inspector Gadget series, Penny was N-years-old. In this series she is 14 and now an agent in training." We do run the risk of introducing interpretive content if we do this, so we have to be sharp. There were other problems with this edit including inappropriate encyclopedic tone "[Gadget] is still the ... incompetent cyborg we know and love" and speculative content like "He's probably out of practice or losing his touch." It also needs a source for Penny's current age. -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 16:58, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Gatordragon's changes (September 2015)[edit]

The changes has been making recently are wrong, not only in information, but style. The series did not air in France first, it aired in Australia first (it's even on DVD over there). The series infobox includes where it aired first and where it was created (which should say both France and Canada). The show is done in two segments for one half-hour episode, they are still kept together in the episode list box, and not individually listed. Granted, at the moment people have been randomly picking what half gets a description making it look confusing, but the former is the way it should be. -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 17:08, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The episodes should still be listed individually because it helps create more space in the table for the Canadian air dates. Gatordragon (talk) 19:17, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't matter, just put the Canadian air dates with the other air dates. It still breaks the standard style of all episode lists. -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 20:15, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The standard style is to list the "a" and "b" segments separately. It's easier to make a new column for Canadian air dates rather than saying "United States" and "Canada" 52 times. Also, France premiered the show before Australia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gatordragon (talkcontribs) 20:24, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I apologise for not seeing that it aired in France first, but I stand by on keeping episodes consisting of two or more segments should still be kept together, unless you can show me somewhere on Wikipedia that they should all be separated. Someone had already put in a hidden note that the Canadian air dates should get a separate column. -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 18:15, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The "a" and "b" segments should still be listed individually. Most two segment episode lists are like this, such as this, this, this, this, this, and many more. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gatordragon (talkcontribs) 21:06, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I actually meant from Manual of Style/Television, which there isn't any specific rule on that. So the fact that you're saying it should be in this specific style you think makes things better, is just your own personal preference, as the way it already was, was fine to begin with. -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 00:29, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

FIrst channel[edit]

The first country it aired in was France, but the first channel is listed as Teletoon, the channel it airs on in Canada. Conflicting information. -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 00:19, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sequel in respect to[edit]

Should we also list this as being a sequel to Gadget and the Gadgetinis? Penny appears to be older in the 2015 series than she looks in the 2001 one.

Gadget got a promotion from Inspector to Lieutenant in GatG but considering the 2015 series represents him as having retired, being demoted due to inactivity is plausible so it's not exactly a hurdle. Ranze (talk) 03:49, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if "Sequel" is the right word, as the new series doesn't seem to acknowledge gadgetinis at all. A link is certainly warranted though. Algr (talk) 18:06, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Season 3[edit]

Season 3 of the series can be found on Netflix in America. ChipmunkRaccoon (talk) 23:21, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

For some reason this is being listed as season 2 here... I'm thinking to split the 2015 episodes into 13 episode seasons based on this Chicago Tribune article though. ScratchMarshall (talk) 04:23, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I assume this is because Netflix is listing it as season 3? Everywhere else it's season 2. There is no season 3. Nobody has ever called the previous season a second season, it's always been season 1. -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 17:47, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Clearly if Netflix is calling the 2017 batch "season 3" then they were using "season 2" to refer to 17-26 released August 2015, following 1-16 being released March 2015. It's a very clear dividing point. We can include a note that some lump 1+2 as 1 and call 3 as 2, but these are secondary releases. ScratchMarshall (talk) 05:12, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If there's such an article by the Chicago Tribune then that should be used as an additional source for clarity and not just Netflix's own designation (even though Chicago Tribune could just be getting their info from Netflix.) -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 16:15, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Judging from how quickly Netflix is delivering their new Volton, it seems easy for them to just quickly cut things up and call it whatever season they want. -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 16:17, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Season 4[edit]

DHX's distribution catalog lists 52 episodes and a new season for Inspector Gadget. Damnedfan1234 (talk) 14:57, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
