I have removed this lady from the gallery of notable African Asians, she seems to be "famous" for kleptomania and self-promotion. It degrades the other people by association.

Spillover to Other Countries from Uganda[edit]

The expulsion of Indians from Uganda made Indians in neighboring countries nervous. I don't know a lot about this, but I know that quite a few Ismailis left Kenya for Canada out of fear that what happened in Uganda would also happen in Kenya. Perhaps a discussion of this spillover could be added.Bill (talk) 05:30, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2A02:8109:9880:110C:24E5:D39E:48F4:3FA4 (talk) 23:02, 14 September 2021 (UTC) I'd like to propose that this article be edited to focus on East African Indians / South Asians. They are a coherent, historical identification with ties across the four countries of the historical East African core. They/we continue to identify and be named as such even in the countries of our more recent migrations, say the UK or Canada. There's not much content in the article about Indians outside of Zanzibar, Tanganyika, Uganda and Kenya anyway. The presence in Southern Africa, South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe can have a much more focused article of its own.[reply]

Our ancestors were in East Africa long before the railway. There was a large influx then, true, but Indian presence on the coast long precedes this. One can see this from the influence of South Indian culture in the language and cuisine of the East African coast.

I'd also add a qualifier to those census numbers. The population of South Asians in Kenya alone is far higher than the number published here. The number here is more like the number of people that attended the meeting at the national stadium when PM Modi visited Nairobi.

These are my contributions from a direct knowledge of the community and with family origins in all four of these territories. I don't know how the encyclopedia works, and apologise for my edits on the article. I hope someone else can pick up from here and make the necessary adjustments, or overrule my suggestions as they see fit.
