Title[edit]

This page was moved a while ago, without explanation, to the current spelling “In Aménas” (with an e acute). There is no support for this in any of the sources on this page, which all use the spelling “In Amenas”, as do sources generally. It is therefore proposed the page be moved to that spelling; the discussion is here if anyone wishes to comment. Moonraker12 (talk) 23:10, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Moonraker12, come on, that is not exactly an unslanted invite to a RM. This article was accented-up with the standard Algerian-French romanization by a hardworking Algerian editor while adding a geo boxes to Algerian geo-stubs in 2007. The "without explanation" is not an issue because it wasn't remotely controversial and none of us contributed to any Algerian geo article prior to this hitting the English news. I'd leave a barnstar on the Algerian editor's UserTalk, but he's sadly long gone.
Back to this actual article, I found no evidence for the "mountain top" etymology yesterday, and have today replaced it with English and French sources on the etymology given in Mouloud Mammeri's La Traversée. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:14, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In ictu: It wasn’t meant to be an “unslanted invite to an RM”, it was meant to be a précis of the reasons for moving.
And it is not good practice to make substantial changes to a page without giving an edit summary, still less to move pages around on what looks like a personal preference.
Also, as has been discussed elsewhere, this was not the standard French-Algerian romanization at all, even if that was relevant.
Shall we discuss it there in future? Moonraker12 (talk) 00:55, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
