Observation[edit]

This could turn into a really interesting article. But I think it needs to clarify its scope. By "imperial church" is the article exclusively referring to Christian congregations? Church usually refers Christianity but there are contexts where it goes outside that. It would be interesting to discuss the theocratic regime of the Ottoman Empire (which was in many ways modeled on the Byzantine regime).

As you say, the word "church" normally brings Christianity to mind. Indeed, "the Church" is sometimes used in explicit opposition to "the Mosque" to refer to the two religions, as in "The Church, the Mosque, and Global Civil Society", and the book "The Church in the Shadow of the Mosque: Christians and Muslims in the World of Islam". However, I suppose similar situations involving other religions could on grounds of analogy be mentioned in this article, but only as a sort of addendum, not as the main topic.
