In 1825, Michael McGuinness started the first business in Ida, Michigan: The Wayside Inn. It was a Typical Hotel for that time period. The Hotel was a two story building. The first floor of the Inn was a labby, the inkepers quarters , and where the food was prepaired. The second floor consisted of one large room with rows of beds.

Soon, the hotel began to get more business, Outside of the hotel was a thick swamp of mud that caused wagons to frequently get stuck. Many travelers stayed at the inn until they could get their wagon out of the mud.

Then, in the 1830's, the Lakeshore and Michigan Southern Railroad came through the area. The railroad brought many newcommers to the lightly populated, rural area. Ida soon flourished. In 1837, the township of ida was established. It was named after Ida M. Taylor, one of the founder's daughter. After The founding of the township, Ida found itself with new businesses. william Riggs became the first post master in Ida. Robert Feinaur began a furnature and undertaking business. He liked to say "we serve the living and the dead." John Witt started Witt's Saloon. During the time of proabition, his business became Witt's Soft Drink Imporium. Ida continued to grow. It now consist of businesses, Carl's hide-a-way, and Ida Public School. It has an annual Christmas parade called "Annual lights parde in Ida." There are floats with lights and Many visitors come to experience the thrilling parade the first weekend in december.
