Talk:Humble Duty

A very brave thing to say that Humble Duty inherited her colour from her sire Sovereign Path, as her damsire Abernant was a very white grey. Humble Duty was in-bred to the great grey filly Mumtaz Mahal (4 X 5) and that is the likely source of her grey colour. Maybe the addition of likely would suffice. Piggott rode her in her first two races as a 3yo as Keith had weight problems. In her first race that season the general view is that both jockeys (Lindley on Highest Hopes and Piggott)would be at the very least investigated if run today. Both jockeys sat stock still throughout the race. The winner's jockey could be justified as he won, but Piggott's ride would possibly result in a non-trying suspension. Both horses were made joint favourites for the 1000G and Highest Hopes ran no race at all and finished tailed off. She only ran two bad races and both times at Newmarket. Thanks for the above. The genetics of grey horses mean that it's impossible for it to skip a generation: there is an explanation at Gray (horse). If Flattering had inherited the grey gene from Abernant she would have been grey herself so unless there's a mistake in the pedigree (not impossible), Humble Duty must have got the gene from Sovereign Path. My source says that the filly was "very tenderly ridden indeed" on her 3yo debut, which is a nice way of agreeing with what you say. If LP were riding today he would certainly have had a lot of enforced "holidays". Tigerboy1966  18:22, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
