Thanks to the transcriptionist for recording the audience's responses as well. This helps to capture the full flavor of the speech.

Wikiquote?[edit]

The consensus is to move some of the quotes from this article to Wikiquote. An editor noted that there is already a section at q:Martin Luther King, Jr.#How Long, Not Long (1965) so a move may not be necessary. Another editor suggested redirecting this page to Sermons and speeches of Martin Luther King Jr. after this is done. There is no prejudice to recreating the article if it can be expanded to be about the speech and its influence.

Should this be moved to wikiquote? Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 05:28, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

  • Support moving some of the quotes to Wikiquote and turning this page into a redirect to Sermons and speeches of Martin Luther King Jr. In its current state, this is not an encyclopedia article. (See Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence for an example of a short encyclopedia article about a speech.) — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 01:47, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. I haven't checked, but in theory sources probably exist that an article could be written here. However a quote-farm is not an article. Presuming Coffee supports this as proposer, this is running 3-0 unopposed. Assuming no opposition shows up in the next few days, I would endorse early closure/withdrawal and just do it as unopposed consensus. WP:NOTBUREAU Alsee (talk) 09:47, 20 February 2018 (UTC) P.S. Redirect to Sermons and speeches of Martin Luther King Jr. as suggested above. Alsee (talk) 09:49, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, conditionally I consider MLK one of the greatest, if not the greatest orator of the twentieth century, and entire speeches of his are quotable; but that's just my bias. That said, I don't know how the quotes currently in the article were chosen, but I suspect it's just editor choice, which is to say, pure WP:OR. The decision to move any of the ones here to Wikiquote should be based on guidelines for quote acceptability there. Also, note that Wikiquote already has a section under MLK about his How Long, Not Long speech, so a move may not be necessary. After any appropriate moves are done, this article should be turned into a redirect. Mathglot (talk) 00:41, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support As it is currently structured- it should be moved to wikiquote. If not the article should be expanded to be about the speech and its influence. Elmmapleoakpine (talk) 18:39, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support movement, with no bias against the article being recreated about the speech itself. -- Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 20:36, 7 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
