Does it seem likely that horsefeathers, in the sense of tapered-edge boards, were once made by feathering the edge of a board with a draw knife and a shaving horse? They would be horse-feathered boards, thus horsefeathers.

Horses DO have feathers...

Saying that a horse does not have feathers is erroneous. While a horse doesn't have actual feathers like a bird has, the clumps of hair sometimes found around a horse's hooves or tail are called feathers. Shouldn't we note this? 66.63.86.156 (talk) 23:18, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
