Content dispute[edit]

Hello @Herzog von Teschen and FromCzech:, I saw the request for page protection and encourage you to discuss the content dispute here before continuing unproductive edit warring. I think both sides have some fair points; while I would like to remind FromCzech that WP:WRITEITFIRST is only an essay, not a policy, and that redlinks are OK, there are valid concerns about unsourced information being raised. Again, please discuss here before making further changes. Toadspike (talk) 00:27, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Herzog von Teschen, Toadspike, and Darwinek: Hello, I don't know how much more to add to what I wrote in the edit summary. I try to go through all the pages of all Czech municipalities, unify their appearance, update and verify all content, and support by references. The user Herzog von Teschen reverted all my work on Horní Suchá and replaced it with content that is out of date (for example infobox, economy), unsourced (almost everything), and in the vast majority not belonging here because it is too detailed (for example list of mayors, history of local firefighters or details of all construction modifications and repairs in recent years). Things like that belong to the chronicle of Horní Suchá (which is also evidenced by the fact that the only citation is from the municipal chronicle), not the encyclopedic entry about the municipality. Herzog also did not properly explain his actions in the edit summary.
As it was once explained to me in the Teahouse, the objective determination for who is notable for the purpose of the Notable people section in ENG Wiki and who is not, is whether the person has a page in ENG Wiki. FromCzech (talk) 10:14, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Herzog von Teschen and FromCzech: Hello. I suggest you guys figure it out between yourselves and find some middle ground. Couple of points from my side, as an uninvolved administrator. Reliable sourcing is important, whether it's online sources or literature. I agree with FromCzech that too much detailed information in the article is not automatically good. For example, having a full list of mayors makes sense in articles about Prague, Berlin or New York City. It doesn't really makes sense in an article about Horní Suchá, which even doesn't have a status of a town. I concur with what Toadspike has said, that redlinks are okay, as long as there is a corresponding article on a different wiki. Again, it doesn't make sense to leave redlinks in Notable people section in articles about, e.g. Prague or Berlin, where we can have easily dozens of bluelinks anyway. Articles about villages are a different story though. Since it is highly unlikely we will have the Notable people section cluttered with links here, I would leave the redlinks to Adolf Kantor [pl] and Marie Glázrová. Both are notable enough for enwiki, and it is likely someone will create those articles in the future. - Darwinek (talk) 15:27, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This edition of FromCzech is a clearly vandalism [1]. He removed many encyclopedic information with sources. List of mayors is also encyclopedic. You could check any publications about history of any village in Cieszyn Silesia, and there are always information about mayors. Herzog von Teschen (talk) 00:28, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
