What title?[edit]

This is a Korean show, so should we not be using the Korean name, Strangers From Hell, and not the bastardized Western naming scheme Hell is Other People? - Jack Sebastian (talk) 04:10, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The official English title Strangers From Hell is the one that's "bastardized"; there is no "from" in the Korean title:
타인 (Tain; 'Other people')-은 (-eun; topic marker) 지옥 (Jiok; 'hell') -이다 (-ida; copula).
This is precisely how the famous quote from No Exit is usually rendered in Korean. (That quote is also sometimes translated as 지옥 이란 타인 이다, but this is much rarer, and when a full Korean translation of No Exit finally became available, in 2013 IIRC, it used the more common translation of the famous quote.) In any case, the current article title Hell Is Other People is the most accurate translation of the Korean title, judged either by formal equivalence or dynamic equivalence. 59.149.117.119 (talk) 11:19, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
