"Start" class??[edit]

To reach "C" class, the article needs the following:

A track listing containing track lengths and authors for all songs
A "personnel" section listing performers, including guest musicians.

Some of that information is available here, although it doesn't break down the bands by name. Composer information can be found by clicking the links at the overview to the individual songs. For example, "New Dawn Fades". --Moonriddengirl ^(talk) 20:05, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

With respect to the track listing, yes, it needs composer information. Since much of this will be redundant, you might handle it by putting a general note at the top, something along the lines of Except where otherwise noted, all tracks composed by Elliot Goldenthal. Then you specify where they are not. As far as the personnel section, there's a section called "crew" (not personnel), but it's missing many musicians. It doesn't include Moby, for instance. It doesn't include Bjorn Kjellemyr, who contributed bass, or Audun Klieve, who played drums. Moby and Time Travel[edit]

Godspeed You Black Emperor in soundtrack? (And links to Tangerine Dream?)[edit]

I ask about Godspeed You Black Emperor because I thought I heard them. A stately wideband crescendo from the recording Lift Up Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven, heard in the last quarter of the movie somewhere... I'd have kept the thought to myself if I hadn't seen a possible precedent for this. In 28 Days Later they appear in the movie's sound, but not the soundtrack release, but there is a lengthy YouTube comments page discussing their desire not to be credited or to appear beyond the scope of the movie's sound. If that isn't the only case, their music might similarly have appeared in Heat but not been credited let alone transferred to a soundtrack release. Does anyone else have any thoughts about this? Some time (if I remember to do it) I will make time to isolate the exact sections, times and durations of each occurrence, and if I wasn't misled somehow I'll edit this to add details.

(Unrelated, but also interesting to me, is the intensely similar character of Tangerine Dream's soundtrack to another Michael Mann film, Thief. While Heat's score's character is described as 'European', I'm surprised that no-one seems to have cited Tangerine Dream directly. I can't help thinking that this is a case of 'credit where credit is due', and that if TD had still been making the same kind of music at the time, Michael Mann might have used them again. I recall that Friedkin was so impressed with them that he edited Sorceror to fit the soundtrack! Not many movie directors would ever do that.)

The lead of this article, in additional to being problematic with regards to neutrality ("ethereal and at times shattering"?), does not conform to WP:LEAD in presentation or to the requirements for information to be included in a lead section at Wikipedia:ALBUM#Article_body. The press section includes quotes out of context. To improve readability necessary to obtain a B, these should be presented in a body of text that adds context to them. The article does not name all musicians--for instance, which members of Einstürzende Neubauten participated? Who exactly are "the Chasers"? This information is required in a section which should be called "personnel" as set out at WP:ALBUM.

The article needs all musical performers for a C class. For a B, other suggestions above should be addressed as well.

Article requirements:
Y Start: reasonably complete infobox; lead section with overview of album; track listing; reference to at least primary personnel by name; Categorization by at least artist and year.

C: all of start and (1) cover art in infobox; (2) at least one additional section of prose; (3) track lengths & song authors in tracklist; (4) a personnel section including all musicians.
B: all of C and (1) most technical details in infobox; (2) technical personnel in personnel section; (3) no obvious issues with sourcing; (4) no obvious issues with readability, though it may not conform completely to style guidelines; (5) no glaring omissions of information (see some suggestions at WP:ALBUM) or extraneous information, like trivia.
