Science[edit]

I wish they would add more info on the Exothermic Oxidation because that's what makes up most of the hand warmer and it sounds pretty damn interesting. Plus I agree I have made some fires in my house way too hot and it felt like I would die! But seriously put more info up on these!50.137.30.21 (talk) 23:36, 5 February 2014 (UTC) But dude - what about some basic science about how this works - it's spooky, and I don't understand it! For great justice. 18:26, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, and when are they gonna invent versions that get reallyreallycold? Those would be hella useful in summer.. or in winter when people turned the heat up way too high.

Theres already a pack that gets really cold. No idea what its called but I have had a few. Why is there no actual article on Hakkin Pocket Warmers? I bought an old one second hand and they work beautifully. I'm surprised that they aren't more common. I'll never be buying another cheap disposable chemical pack again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.130.176.182 (talk) 06:31, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some explanation of hand warmers unsing oxidation of iron is given in http://www.swisseduc.ch/chemie/schwerpunkte/waermebeutel/docs/waermebeutel.pdf. The paper is in german but formulas, energy calculations and tables should be ok even if you do not understand german.

You can make sculputures out of it! I'm working on it at science :] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.84.84.71 (talk) 20:03, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures[edit]

Anyone have any idea on how we could reorganize the page to make the pictures more aesthetically appealing?

Information not complete.[edit]

Some catalytic hand warmers do use a platinum catalyst but not all of them.

A few years ago the box for Zippo hand warmers was marked "Made to Zippo quality standards in Japan". Those warmers had the same dimensions as the Hakkin product and the flat burner looked identical. Modern Zippos are made in Taiwan and have a burner of a completely different type.68.149.229.230 (talk) 19:06, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
