Origin of the name Hakluyt[edit]

It would be good to have some explanation here, as neither founder was surnamed Hakluyt. And a note on pronunciation. --Bacon Man (talk) 14:48, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to suggest some changes to the Hakluyt & Company Wikipedia entry. I believe they are non-controversial, as they simply update the references to Hakluyt’s overseas offices, management and boards. I have an interest, as I am an employee of Holdingham Group, of which Hakluyt & Company is a trading name. That is why I am proposing these changes here rather than simply making them myself.

The updates are as follows:

1. In the second paragraph, "Hakluyt is headquartered in London and has subsidiary offices in Singapore and New York” should be changed to “Hakluyt is headquartered in London and has subsidiary offices in Singapore, New York and Tokyo”.

The supporting reference is www.hakluyt.co.uk.

2. Keith Craig retired as CEO in 2016, and I would suggest adding a sentence to the end of the second paragraph as follows: “In March 2016, Dr Paul Schreier became the new CEO of Hakluyt, in succession to Keith Craig. Unlike his predecessors, Schreier does not have a background in intelligence. A former Royal Navy officer, he was a partner with McKinsey & Company, worked in the office of the Australian Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and was Chief Operating Officer of Macquarie University in Australia.”

3. The fourth paragraph, on the Holdingham board, is out of date, and I suggest replacing it with: “In January 2016, Lord Paul Deighton joined the company’s board, which is chaired by Sir John Rose, former CEO of Rolls-Royce. Deighton was previously the head of the Organising Committee for the 2012 London Olympic Games and a minister in the British Treasury. The other members of the board are Robert Webb, QC and Matthew Williams.”

4. The section on The Hakluyt International Advisory Board is also out of date, and I suggest replacing it with:

COI edits 29 June 2023[edit]

Just a note to disclose my conflict of interest, I have updated some uncontroversial information directly including the directors and office locations. Hi, I have a conflict of interest and have been making some uncontroversial changes to update the article, to accurately reflect the personnel currently involved with Hakluyt & Company. I would also like to bring the International Advisory Board up to date as per the below, removing (strikethrough) former members no longer active and adding (bold) new, active ones. I am happy to do this myself if appropriate but please let me know if you have any concerns about the material or think it’s better that the community takes this step. Thank you in advance! The former president and chairman of Mitsubishi Corporation, Minoru (Ben) Makihara, served on the advisory board of the firm from 2004 to 2020.

It's not usual practice to list "advisory boards" on company articles, per WP:NOTDIRECTORY. It sounds like this advisory board may be separate from the board of directors? Strike that, I see it's an advisory firm. In any event, we don't really list those either. In lieu of better sourced content being added, I'm not sure what this list brings to the article, except to turn the article into a list. COI edits 13 October 2023[edit]

Hi, I would like to make a request that the following paragraph be removed from this article:

"In 2023, the British Labour Party employed Hakluyt to help it court the British business community by arranging meetings with prominent business figures."[1]https://news.yahoo.com/labour-taps-hakluyt-adviser-woo-092048383.html

The source provided (citation 11, Bloomberg) states that Hakluyt has confirmed that the British Labour Party is not a client, and that Hakluyt does not work for political parties, and the British Labour Party declined to comment. As such, the update is speculative rather than factual and should not be included on Wikipedia.

I declare that I have a professional conflict of interest and have been employed by Hakluyt & Company to edit Wikipedia.
