Introduction

At what rate did the quetzal replace the peso? Was it at par? The article on the Guatemalan peso suggests that it wasn't, but doesn't say what rate it was replaced at. Nik42 20:01, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

As far as I know, the quetzal replaced the peso at par, but I haven't been able to find info that explicitly states that. Will keep looking for it... 70.59.13.220 (talk) 18:14, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
The quetzal was introduced at par with the U.S. dollar. What we need to know is how much the peso was worth before its replacement.

Banknote denominations

Recently, an anonymous editor changed the list of original denominations from "1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 100 quetzales" to "1, 5, 10, 20 and 100 quetzales" with no explanation. Looking back through the history, the reference to a 2-quetzal bill has been in the article since January 12, 2007. As it has never been removed before now, it seems probable to me that the 2-quetzal was correct, thus I've restored it. Nik42 05:27, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:GuatemalanBanknoteQ00500BothSides.jpg

Image:GuatemalanBanknoteQ00500BothSides.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I wanted to explain the position of each one of the characters in the currency table, so I make a little contribution about the knowledge learned in the school. I am guatemalan citizen. --Dardón López J.R. (talk) 05:13, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

This doesn't make sense

Or at least there's a date missing...

Until 1987, the quetzal was pegged to and domestically equal to the United States dollar, before that it was pegged to the French franc, and utilized the gold standard.

I'm fixing that run on sentence, but "pegged to the dollar until '87" means that before '87 it was pegged to the dollar. "Before that" ends when exactly? When did it go from the French franc to the US dollar? —Preceding unsigned comment added by RiFraS (talkcontribs) 14:18, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

The switch was made immediately right when the gold standard was beginning to end. After 1987 a dirty flotation method has been used. For a clear historic reference, please see | Banco de GuatemalaFrapoz (talk) 18:37, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
