I intend to add more details about the historic significance of the variety to western Sonoma County, California, when time permits. Photos would be nice, also.
Since I am not that knowledgeable about the importance of the variety elsewhere, anyone with information about that is encouraged to contribute.

Sweet v. Tart
The description section opens with the comment that, "The Gravenstein apple has a sweet, tart flavor." "Sweet" and "Tart" are antonyms. It's like saying someone has a hat, skinny physique. I have deleted "sweet" because, relative to other popular varieties, the Gravenstein is distinuished by its tartness. Others may differ.
