NH-2 and Grand Trunk Road are not same

Between Delhi and Etawah, NH-2 and Grand Trunk road are not same, Grand Trunk road passes through Aligarh and I think it meets NH-2 at Shikohabad where as NH-2 goes through Palwal, Mathura, Agra, Tundla, Firozabad, Shikohabad, Etawah, Kanpur etc.

Can this be confimed and the correct data is reflected in the 'Route' section. Vjdchauhan 14:29, 18 December 2006 (UTC).

Yes, NH2 from Delhi go southwards towards Mathura, also called 'Mathura Road' in Delhi. GT Road from Delhi go Eastwards into Ghaziabad, which is I guess is NH1. Maruti nandan (talk) 15:55, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Route

I re-combined the separate national sub-headings ('Bangladesh', 'India' and 'Pakistan') under Route into one section. If in due course the route is described more fully, three or more sub-sections might be justified. But not yet. Earthlyreason 14:56, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Goes to Chittagong???

Where did the claim come from that the Grand Trunk Road ever went to Chittagong? Banglapedia lists the most easterly point as Sonargaon. The map used in the lead lists a source that does not include a segment going to Chittagong. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 14:50, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Grand Trunk RoadGrand Trunk road – as per other road page names to maintain uniformity. Vin09(talk) 05:55, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

I may have mistaken, revoking move.--Vin09(talk) 06:09, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
  • Oppose: I think that "Road" is part of the name, and so should be capitalized, just as we do for rivers such as Teesta River. "Grand Trunk road" would be descriptive, the road that is related in some way to something called the "Grand Trunk". Sminthopsis84 (talk) 18:34, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
Already revoked my request in the above post.--Vin09(talk) 03:21, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

History section

Hi, the primary topic of this article is the modern roadway which was established by Sher Shah Suri. It runs along a path similar to a roadway 2000+ years ago founded by the Mauryans, but is not the same road as that. The Grand Trunk Road is from the 16th century. Yet the article is written in a way that suggests the ancient Mauryan road and the GT road are one in the same. I think a separate article or section can be made to discuss this predecessor, but the current page should make clear that this page is about the road founded in the 16th century as GT Road.Willard84 (talk) 22:45, 3 March 2018 (UTC)

In fact, all of the roads mentioned here are not same. Mauryans realigned and rebuilt ancient Uttarapath, keeping same name. Suris realigned and rebuilt Utarapath as Sadak-e-Azam. Mughals realigned and rebuilt Sadak-e-Azam as Badshahi Sadak. British realigned and rebuilt Badshahi Sadak as Grand trunk road. Even today the road is re-aligned at some places, expressways have largely superseded old roads at some regions. Vatsmaxed (talk) 19:00, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
