Lehane?[edit]

Do we have references as to where this last name came from? She never was given a name in the show, so I'd like to know.

Whedon provided the last name for Faith after the makers of the RPGs requested one. He said he picked Lehane because it was "nice and southie", as I recall. I believe those references are now at Faith Lehane. So, there is your source/details: it is true, and it's canonical because Joss came up with it, and it can be found in the Buffy RPG books somewhere. :) 4.238.11.31 15:44, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GoAskMalice has good Trivia[edit]

1. In Buffy episode 3.07 "Revelations": Faith tells Buffy the list of "boys" she's, ah, dated in the past (trying hard to bond and be Buffy's friend, she wants Buffy to tell her the same, about Angel, etc). Faith's list: Tommy the Deadbeat, Steve the Klepto, and Kenny the Drummer.

2. Faith gets called to be the Chosen Slayer (from being a potential) on 1998-MAY-12.TUE (diary date in book). This is same as the airdate for Buffy episode 2.21 "Becoming, Part 1", which is when Drusilla killed Kendra the Vampire Slayer in Sunnydale Library. Note: the true Slayer line was with Kendra, as Buffy had died. Thus the true Slayer line passes to Faith.

3. The night before (as dated in Book diary), 1998-MAY-11.MON, Faith records dreams that seem to make more sense to her (she has just learned about the dreams/visions potentials & real slayers often get). She sees the girl in the dreams as if it is her, but now realizes it is a slayer in the past.

Two of them are notey: One is about a wet tunnel that opens to cave, and something that has a face like a bat (The Master), chokes to death a girl in a thin white dress and lets her fall in a pool of water. Another dream at the same time, in a room with wood walls and shelves of books (she compares it to her Harvard Professor Watcher's Cambridge, Massachutes house, the library/study), a girl is approached by a fierce woman with dark hair & eyes and a long red dress/gown. She uses her open right hand finger nails like knives and slices the girl's throat, nearly beheading her.

The first is the Master killing Buffy in episode 1.12 "Prophecy Girl". Note: Xander & Angel soon arrive and Xander peforms CPR and revives her (Angel has no breath). The second is Drusilla killing Kendra in episode 2.21 "Becoming, Part 1" - as mentioned above. Note: Faith's diary entries for the dreams is the night before (May 11).

There are many other items, like the origin of Faith's tatoo (Eliza Dushku's tatoo). Faith's watcher (Diana Dormer) dated seriously the man who would be eventually Rubert Giles father. (Never says his name, but mentions Rupert as his son and that he is now a watcher for the slayer guarding the Hellmouth in California).

I've never edited a page here for real, so I'll just past this here. I hope somebody takes it and incorporates? I would help and provide more details.

Ah, yes. I remember this book. I liked it, if only because it did a pretty good job of depicting Faith. I also remember how well it fit into canon (though the airdate thing is a bit of a mistake on the author's part if it includes the year you quote, as season 2 aired in '98, but took place during 1997; recall too that season three had "SlayerFest '98", even though it was aired in 1999). The fact that this novel works so hard to fit in very specific canonical details about Faith's background is of course fairly notable, as elaborating on Faith's character and how she developed into who she is by season three, is really the main intent of the book in the first place. I recall it even having a bit where Faith is first introduced to the term "five by five" which became a bit of a catchphrase for her in the TV series. Not to mention every one of the past paramours Faith lists in the TV series to Buffy has a direct and obvious analog in the book, right down to the names and basic details (the "klepto" being indeed an impulsive thief, for instance) of the boys. Hell, a whole section could and probably should be devoted to pointing out the intended correlations between the TV series' canon and the book. This wouldn't be quite the same as a plot summary, as large portions of the plot are probably completely imaginary, however, a number of key details, such as the "five by five" thing, the airdate matchups, the references to her past boyfriends, the appearance of Kakistos, Faith's first Watcher being killed by him, etc., could be included in a bulleted list with explanations (I would strongly argue from what I've seen thus far that the airdate note should include mention of the episode's actual setting in time, vs. the airing date of the episode).
