john gill[edit]

john gill did not sell the land to the university. he was dying in a sanitarium (presumed to have tuberculosis) at the time of sale. it was his two sisters and brother, the doctor who orchestrated the sale. it is questioned that since john gill was the primary cultivator of the gill tract, that perhaps he signed the sale only because he was sick. quite possibly he may have requested conditions of/for the sale--for the land to remain in agricultural use. some of the documents during this time period-1909-1928 (at the bancroft library) have been obscurely retyped, and are missing contents.

the gill family's plot is at the the olmstead designed cemetery in oakland off pleasant valley road. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.0.172.21 (talk) 10:37, 1 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gill Tract Article Needs Updated Info[edit]

While the article for "Occupy the Farm," [1] is relatively complete, the Gill Tract page seems to need some work. There is more current information about the Gill Tract land that should be added to the article for it to be up to date. Specifically, information regarding the recent sale of part of the tract and development by private entities, as well as involved stakeholders currently working with the community farm. The second citation links to a page that can no longer be found and should be updated; perhaps find a reference other than UC Berkeley to ensure neutrality. This link is to the plan for current development and more details on this information should be disclosed with verifiable sourcing. The "Pre-colonial" and "Post Mexican-American War" sections need citing. Additionally, more references in general would be useful for accurately citing all of the information discussed in more robust sections. There is some lack of detail under the agricultural research section and it is not completely clear how the source (reference 10) is relevant. SemiTalia (talk) 05:46, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly looking into some of the research conducted by student groups on UC Berkeley's campus could be helpful. Hfrankl (talk) 20:02, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-Colonia to Sale to University of California History[edit]

Information under the headings "Pre-Colonial," "Spanish Colonial" and "Sale to University of California seems to be lacking. Additionally none of the information under these headings is cited. Sophiaweltman (talk) 06:01, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
