Vital dates[edit]

Something is not right. The only Battle of Kawaihae I know about is the one at Puʻukoholā Heiau, which was in 1791. Perhaps it was his father or mother who escaped? Or was there another battle there later? W Nowicki (talk) 22:29, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To (finally) follow up, the original article gave birth date of 1792; I changed to 1770 as given on the keouanui.org web site, which would make sense if he was 22 at the time of the battle. Also note the web site is "official" for the "Kealii publications" company I think. W Nowicki (talk) 05:19, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On further review, I suspect the 1797 date on the Keali'i site is more accurate. My guess it was his father Nuhi who was born circa 1740 and at the battle in 1791. Otherwise, he would have been 23 years older than his father-in-law! Still would love a more reliable independent source. W Nowicki (talk) 23:12, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to the plaque under the giclée copies at Kawaiaha'o Church;

"This portrait of Gideon Peleioholani Laanui is an exact replica that is on display at Liliuokalani Church in Haleiwa. The artist is world renowned Mary Koski who now resides in Kamuela on the Big island (Actually she passed in 2011). The portrait was originally commissioned by Princess Gertrude Kapiolani Miller-Toledo, a Great granddaughter of Laanui, in 1986".

Fair use[edit]

The portrait of Gideon should pass fair use in this instance as don't think there are any other images of the subject.--Mark Miller (talk) 22:17, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
