Real estate controversies[edit]

The "Real estate controversies" section has experienced a series of deletions by an unlogged-in editor at IP address 208.100.196.{193, 218, 229}. He hasn't left any clue as to his objections (he always leaves the edit summary blank) and I can't infer his goals by looking at his other edits since the only edits ever from these IP addresses have been these deletions. The section appears to be adequately sourced, but perhaps the tone of the section is too partisan? I'm quite new at editing Wikipedia, does anyone have any advice? --RP88 02:52, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and before I forget, to the editor at 208.100.196.{193,218,229}, please join this discussion. --RP88 02:52, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My advice is to treat (a) anonymous IP edits which (b) simply delete text (c) without any explanation (any edit summary) and (d) come from an account used only for that deletion, as vandalism.
Having said that, it never hurts to do a quick review of the text for the more obvious problems. I've done so, and removed one phrase. But, in general, you're not required either to be a mind-reader or to extensively research a section just because one person (presumably very partisan) wants to suppress part of an article. There are a lot better uses of your time. John Broughton | Talk 03:25, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks John, I appreciate the advice. --RP88 08:11, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Political Positions Section[edit]

This section has very clearly been vandalized, and the first few paragraphs are rife with stilted language and accusations. However, the section does contain information that could be presented in a more facially-neutral way, and it might serve the page best to clean up rather than delete the section in its entirety. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.190.63.73 (talk) 20:45, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not familiar with Gary Miller or his political positions, but you're right, that section has obviously been the victim of unreverted vandalism. I went back into the page history and restored that section and the infobox to the state they were in before the recent spate of vandalism. Here is a link showing the changes resulting from my restoration if you want to review it for accuracy. —RP88 (talk) 21:21, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Military service[edit]

There is no attribution for the statement in the lede graf that Miller "dishonorably served United States Army. "Dishonorably served" is not even a phrase in use to describe military service, let alone a phrase that helps a reader understand what the author is talking about. Near the end of the entry is an odd, boxed and over-the-margin line about his inflating his military record - but again, there's no source. I know enough about Miller to know he's probably as bad a guy as the Wikipedia article makes him out to be, but in such cases it's even more important to substantiate what's written about him.Wlegro (talk) 17:01, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I attached a citation to the military service section, but I still can't figure out why it's formatted that strange way - a broken-line box with one sentence extending far past the margin.Wlegro (talk) 17:34, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think removing the "dishonorably" stuff is fine, I don't think labeling his military service as such is backed up by the current reference (although if someone has a reliable source that says he was dishonorably discharged, they should feel free to use it). I've also fixed the formatting problem with the military service section and put inline citations to the harpers reference in the infobox and lead section, —RP88 (talk) 17:49, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! YOU were the editing conflict! I thought I was conflicting with myself and had thereby somehow fixed the formatting. I was going to go back and take out the "dishonorably" part and found it was already gone, which clued me in someone was in at the moment I was editing. This got very confusing - first I saw my inline citation (No. 12) and then it was gone and replaced by No. 1 - confusion made worse by my not noticing right away that there was an editing conflict going on. Thanks for fixing. I looked for code to define the formatting error but found nothing but the usual equal-marks.Wlegro (talk) 17:58, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The formating problem was caused by a leading space, which is intended to be used for for formatting as a monospaced block of text, e.g:
