Television[edit]

Diahann Carroll starred in Julia which premiered in 1968; it is less accurate to suggest Gail Fisher was the second African American woman to appear prominently in a television series.

Article says: “She became the second African American woman after Nichelle Nichols of Star Trek to show prominently on weekly television.”

Wrong. She was the third. The first was Cicely Tyson, who played social worker George C. Scott’s secretary in 25 of the 26 episodes of the series “East Side / West Side”, 1963-64. And of course we’re only talking about dramatic series. Several sitcoms had black women in the cast going back to the 1950s. 74.104.189.176 (talk) 00:05, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
